Best of Music edition: 90's hip hop

Jump to newest

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

Who here grew up in the 90's as a teenager? It was the decade hip hop really broke out and conquered the world. Most of my high school friends were into it and I was lured as well.

So, if you grew up in that time or just appreciate the genre, what are your top 5 hip hop tracks from the 90's? Interesting to see how many Dr Dre or Tupac mentions are made

Oh this thread absolutely stinks of me. From the top of my head I’d say

Victory - Puff Daddy, Notorious BIG and Busta Rhymes

Twinz - Big Pun, Fat Joe

NY state of mind - Nas

Homeboyz - Tupac and Outlawz

Ghetto bird - Ice cube

100% will change my mind

Cardiff

1. Juicy - Biggy

2. Hypn0tize - Biggy

3. Crossroads - LL Cool J

4. 5 on it - Luiz

5. Missing You - P Diddy

Bit difficult keeping it to five and the 90s

Three of your choices could easily make my top 5 Regulate is such a smooth track. What's my name was massive when it was released (in my 11th grade). Baby got back. "I like big butts and I cannot lie" Have to agree!

The thing about hip hop is that a great track has to have that "bop" that gets you instantly moving and that "hook" you repeat over and over.

Two nods to Regulate by Nate dog and Warren G so far

Geez, am I the only one who thought Young MC was a great rapper with his debut album?

Bust a move and pricipal's office. Amazing tracks that are fun, bopping with a great groove.

Dizzee Rascal - Fix up, look sharp

Cypress Hill feat. Control Machete - Siempre Peligroso

Breal, Coolio, LL Cool J, Method Man & Busta Rhymes - Hit 'em High

Funkdoobiest - Superhoes

Westside Connection - Bow Down

Others had more than 5 tracks, so that's my 2nd 5.

I didn't check the dates.. Fix up look sharp is 2000s, think the Cypress Hill one might be as well.

I actually started listening to hip hop way back in the early 80s

A couple of mates were break dancers and they got me listening to it and I got hooked on the jams

Kurtis Blow

Marley Marl

Roxanne Shante

Egyptian Lover

Mantronix

Whodini

The Fat boys

World Class Wreckin Cru ( who's members went on to form NWA )

Schooly D

Doug E Fresh

Biz Markie

Great jams, good memories
