I just can’t read it that easily anymore... luckily it was more of an early 2000’s thing and most people use whole words now!

"It depends. If the messages are interesting enough then spelling mistakes don't bother me. If they are messages saying the guy wud luv to meet up then yes, spelling matters. More importantly, a well articulated interesting message is a turn-on, so a poorly articulated one suffers by comparison." Ah to paraphrase Oscar Wilde, sup baby?

"Depends. It is definitely an instant turn off. We all make spelling mistakes, and typos, or can be dyslexia etc but if it's constant and obvious it does show a lack of effort and presentation. As for text speak, I don't mind things like "tbf" or slang words, but full on "hey wuu2. Wana suk?" and many other examples like that, then it is a turn off. The text speak was just an examole, I have only had that message from men. Obviously if it was sent from a woman text speak is acceptable... " Definitely isn't!... Well

"I think I need someone of a certain intelligence with a reasonable command of words. Its sexy innit (well aware of my own public image here ) This All the ladies love a big juicy... brain." Haha, indeed! Intelligence and command of words is a huge deal to me. It can turn me instantly on or off. Obviously you can tell the difference between the odd typo versus someone with less of an eloquent grasp of the English language. It’s by no means the only factor that matters to me though. And obviously on here it’s more apparent because contact is made via written messages. I don’t judge people who struggle with spelling or grammar though - I’m just naturally more inclined towards those who are more gifted in that sense.

"Ach. I know the correct answer should be no, spelling doesn't matter to me. In all honesty, I *can* be a bit of a pretentious twunt at times so yes, it does matter to some degree. I like coherency in messages and not trying to work out what I'm trying to read. Everyone makes mistakes, I know that. But rightly or wrongly (and yes, I'm starting a sentence with but) I do like, what I perceive to be, a more considered approach to messages and profiles. " Is a twunt like a cagina?

"If it's the occasional there/their or your/you're confusion - I may close one eye. But if it's a long paragraph with no commas or full stops, constant spelling errors (this is why smartphones have a spell check) and it's hard to read or understand - then I wouldn't even reply to that. English is my third language and I'm proud to use it well." Yeah, the long messages without punctuation get to me at times.

"No, some of the best people I have dated have been highly intelligent but dyslexic." Dyslexia has been mentioned a few times in this thread. You make a fair point. The general consensus I'm getting at this point is that people dislike obviously lazy messages. Things like spelling mistakes, text speak etc are simply possible indications of that.

"I am dyslexic and plagued by autocorrect, but always make an effort to use good language when messaging, and would expect the same in return. I see it as a lack of effort, and it really does put me off. I find well written messages so much more appealing, and wouldn't talk to somebody that uses slang text (even if they were super hot) Point blank refuse to reply to anything like "hey bbe, hw r u" too. It's not like the old days on a Nokia 3310 where you had characheter limits and had to abbreviate everything to fit it in one message to save that extra 10p!! " I always thought it's a bizarre irony that "dyslexia" must be a bitch to spell for somebody with dyslexia. I wonder if the inventor of the word was a sadist.

"No, some of the best people I have dated have been highly intelligent but dyslexic." True dat! Albert Einstein was dyslexic. First thing they told me when I got tested. Also there's loads of different strands of dyslexia. For me it's comprehension, but I excel in every other area. My point being you could be dyslexic and have great spelling and grammar. For me, it's more about effort and them being able to express themselves coherently so I can understand what is being said. Even if someone is beautiful I find it hard to get interested if we can barely communicate. Makes me feel shallow

I've met dyslexics with fantastic spelling and grammar who are just slow readers and writers. I've also met someone who despite being the top of my Physics class in sixth form, struggled to spell Physics. It does vary a lot.

I don't expect excessive amounts of labour either, just a coherent message that I don't have to put into google translate to decipher. We all make typos, and phones correct things to the strangest of words sometimes, but it's the general laziness and slang that puts me off (Anybody else spell checking their messages before posting or just me?! That's how I see it. Bad spelling is down to a lack of effort. Even with dyslexia, which should always be taken in to consideration, it just requires even more effort for those with. Something those of us without dyslexia often underestimate. I see it as taking pride in what you are doing, putting words in to text. I appreciate a very well worded letter/message/text from somebody with dyslexia much more because of the effort put in to that pride. It depends on the situation for me. I expect a profile to be well written as you have time to check it or have someone else check it if needed. During back and forth messaging however, I don't expect someone to have to put in excessive amounts of labour every time they speak to me. Haha)" Ha! Yeah I bet everyone is frantically checking their messages for typos. Unforgiving on yourself for that one. I do however like purposely made spelling mistakes. Me and my friend used to leave notes everywhere at my old work place. Ones above the bin saying "Putt you're waist in hear". I know, I'm a loser... But big whoop, wanna fight about it?

" Agreed. Guess that makes me a pretentious twunt too I’m cool with that though

"If it's lazy, poor grammar and spelling are an irritation. For example, apostrophe's (sic) in plurals annoy me. I do like to see intelligence but this is not necessarily indiclated by perfect English. If the meaning is clear, if there is wit or evidence of real thought, then I can be persuaded to take off my grammar Nazi armband." A little off-topic, but a local shop is called Perfect Party's. I pass it a couple of times each week and I always smile at the irony. Perfect Party's.

"I’m lazy with spelling. I rarely proof read my posts so they’re often littered with typos and spelling mistakes. The same with messages. Auto-carrot also has a wonderful habit of changing the word I’m trying to type too, especially on my iPad where I type with my thumbs. Spelling is not an issue unless I cannot understand what has been typed and almost all of the time I can. I'm afraid your trying to hard to be funny when it's not really. Read your profile and I think that most people would be put off. On over a year and no verifications says it all! The daily truth. By subscription only, £10 per month." I didn’t ask for your feedback on my profile. I wasnt trying to be funny in my post. My verifications are hidden so you have no idea who I have met and when. I suggest you save your opinion for someone who cares what you think about them.
