There's a big difference in acknowledging the existence of a God and determining whether that God is worthy of worship (or indeed listening to at all).

And where does it say that sex is the ultimate sin?

According to Google:

"The unpardonable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Blasphemy includes ridicule and attributing the works of the Holy Spirit to the devil."

So you can shag as much as you like, just avoid saying things like:

"Oh God yes" or "Jesus Christ that's good" or "you've got Hell of a good body"....

Well Christianity kicked off big time in the 5th century. Pagans had to convert on pain of death.

Hypasia the Alexandrian scientist was torn apart by Christian monks.

People really believed in evil and thus saw the need to destroy anything pagan, sexy and thereby likely to lead to unchristian behaviour.

Yep but human beings have a violent side to them. When people fear things they behave badly - look around even if so called "civilised society" it's still going on

God wouldn't have a chance in modern day.

We'd get a Union, sue him for unfair dismissal (to hell), he'd throw a wobbly on Twitter, satirical films and Netflix shows would ensue.

Jesus would be snapped by paparazzi wearing a Satan costume at a party; the scandal would discredit Almighty proclaimations.

The Devil would start turning folk away, he's got a bedroom tax to think of, his pension is dwindling away covering it.

Then after a few years, there'd be a sex referendum with a highly controversial outcome. People wouldn't know where they stood with regards to afterlife, legal bills would be piling up and then God would be like "well fuck this, I'll try again in another couple thousand years, let 'em fuck each other to pieces."

Most religions say certain kinds of sex are a sin not sex itself. The whole religion thing is a system of fables in my view, hundreds of years ago that's how wisdom was passed on. Also human beings have a need to know they are part of something, they seek meaning... therefore we have a god to explain all the stuff we can't

Biggest BS I've heard in years, oh wait a week, but it was also here on fab lol.

Statement just displays a great lack of understanding of religion by those who have a chip about religion.

Religion is just another excuse than people use to pin the evils than human beings do themselves. Fundamentally it's what's inside people that do these evils and then being given a way out of personal responsibility by those around who then say it's religion, or government or this institution etc. Sad.

You raise a very interesting point though. Why does man from dawn of time always felt this need? Even in some of the most perversed civilizations they keep searching. The weather today is no different in that it is still a powerful force that cannot be controlled by man, and will decimate the landscape and tribes even today.

Maybe less of their imagination but more in tune to an awareness that a greater force was behind all of nature than we wish to give these simple, uneducated, less developed, less enlightened man credit for.

Religion in its base form is control before the concept of a god or gods there was veneration to ancestry this morphed into a worship of sorts over time until some bright spark came to the conclusion of "if I tell them to stop doing the thing that i don't like because it will make the spirits/god(s) angry then they will stop doing it"

This then spurred on the creation of new gods with people arguing that our god says it's okay to do this and that and so on until another forward thinking chap came up with the idea of having just one god and that all the others were wrong paving the way for a few similar ideologies where one god is ascendant above all others with different sets of rules depending on whichever man in the sky you wanted to follow

Some would say it's not about the worshiping of a god at the end of the day but how we choose to live our lives,do we lead a life of good intentions taking care of ourselves and those we love and treating people as equals regardless of race or colour or do we persecute those who have different opinions as to what constitutes worship.

Why have one religious text telling us to love one and other and a different religious text telling us to "kill the infidel" (a bad example I know and I'm not against any religion in particular I find them all quite unreasonable)

What I'm trying to say is whether or not you believe in god(s) religion has shaped the world we live in today it has created boundaries which may never be broken and regardless of statistics it has more blood on its hands than any other form of control be it politics, border disputes or anything associated

That's just my humble opinion anyway feel free to agree or disagree we are after all human and we have a choice

For early man such power seemed to have some kind of will and pattern to it and so in the imagination of those early peoples pagan religions began. They also wondered what their place in all of this was... slowly more sophisticated "gods" developed all with the basic core of passing on good morals but which became abused over the centuries by the greedy and powerhungry. Humans still seek meaning but "god" (put another "O" in there and you have "good" is in each one of us but then so is evil . It's a fascinating topic and way to complex to go into here but that's some of my thoughts and only my opinion of course

"

For sure, they had an instinctive understanding that modern man has largely lost because he no longer works with the cycles of nature on a daily basis. We understand more about the workings of nature and the cosmos but ancient man respected it more.

"Was real, appearing daily in the skies telling us how to live our lives...would you still swing?

Remembering that sex is the ultimate sin....

If sex was the ultimate sin then we wouldn't exist

Was wondering how I was going to ask OP too.

Funny how assumptions are so easily made. And... if God. Another one which I'm looking for proof for too

You raise a very interesting point though. Why does man from dawn of time always felt this need? Even in some of the most perversed civilizations they keep searching. I've friends who believe they are the essence of meaning, it's in themselves and atheists would hold this view, yet they still search for meaning. I find it interesting.

Maybe, just maybe they are looking in the wrong place?

In very early days millenia ago, nature was a terrifying force that could decimate crops and therefore lives of whole tribes. The sky itself was inspiring (go to a dark sky area and be awed. I think modern man has lost a lot of knowledge about how nature works through the quest to conquer it and through a lack of understanding of it. There is a sad arrogance that man knows more than he really does, a closed mind if something could be different to what he thinks.

A rudimentary glance at any religious texts will show them to be entirely man made

We should have outgrown this nonsense by now

Agreed there’s a chip of the divine in all of us even if the divine is different for us all.

I thought sex was "original sin", but in the end not sinful as it conflicts with the edict of "go forth and multiply".

Apparently, God finally got the jist that fucking is fucking good, AND leads to more worshipers....good old God

Not me but I do accept that both good and evil are committed in their names just like most things.

I reckon it would only ever be answered if it happened. Ppl are quick to say things when there are no consequences, but when things get real they often behave differently....

Sex wasn't the original sin according to the original source. So yes everyone would still swing
