Hi I've recently been diagnosed with depression and PTSD.

Put on sertraline and the whole thing is kicking my arse.

But my naughty side is soaring. Cant stop being horny and wanting fun .

Anyone else have this

No, thankfully sertraline hasn't kicked my libido into overdrive.

Sadly not, when first put onto meds, fluxitine, it actually deminished it. Took a long time to get that mojo back.

Not that I would regret going on meds, it took the edge from everything effecting me and thankfully put me on the road to recovery

Never taken Sertraline but am on Citalopram. It can have an adverse effect on your libido (not mine).

I found that the first two weeks were really hard because it exacerbated anxiety, but then everything calmed down.

I have previously been on four different meds, one of them being sertraline and in all honesty it didn’t make any difference to my libido. I always had a high sex drive and it didn’t heighten it anymore or diminish it. But I guess everyone is different

I was diagnosed with c-Ptsd.. so chronic.. sert did nothing.. neither did any antidepressants as sideeffects insomnia and nightmeres were worse.. beta blockers helped alot.

Limbick and amygdala part ofvthe brain has been damaged. Memory and recall..

Even though mental health it should be a called a psychological injury

Read as much as you can about self help ... as theres no help or at best very little..

As for horny.. thats a different part of the brain..??

I take 150mg of sertraline each morning for anxiety. I have been on it for 10 years on and off. It's terrible to start with. Jaw clenching, tremors, weird dreams etc. Never got horny when i started in fact sex was the last thing i thought about. After a few months though my mind settled and everything more or less got back to normal. I still get anxiety now and then but not as bad as before. I can control my thoughts better due to cbt. Anxiety is nasty. It takes over. It feeds on your mind. It finds cracks and slowly creeps inside like an unwanted friend. Luckily sertraline really helps.

PTSD can indeed trigger an ‘abnormal’ desire for sex in some people. This includes putting yourself in situations that you wouldn’t normally feel comfortable with.

Depression can make it very difficult to feel anything other than very low and a risky encounter enables you to feel something even if the ‘hit’ is very short. It can be quite dangerous so I’d recommend talking to a therapist if possible. Speaking from personal experience it’s not always easy to see the behaviour escalating especially when we use sites like Fab in the first place.

I’m on sertraline and found it took me a good few months to settle into it and a year or so to actually start to feel better.

Wishing you well x

Perhaps not my place, but I just want to say I think its incredibly cool to see so many people talking openly about mental health and how to help deal with it.

The more of this the better - anything that helps remove stigma is a good thing

I've never struggled with depression so I wouldnt know what people are going through. I've witnessed the impact of depression on loved ones and it's difficult to see what they are going through.

I'm offering free virtual hugs for everyone

Hope you’re ok OP can take a while for the meds to kick in and it’s not always the first one you try that works best for you. Take on day at a time right now and know that it can get much easier to live with. I’m in a great place overall after a long period of struggling. I didn’t leave my house for a year at one point and genuinely didn’t want to wake up . Can’t remember the last time I thought that but it did take a few different meds and cbt to get me here. Don’t beat yourself up over the bad days and know there are plenty of others here at various stages in the journey. Keep the hope and keep taking

First time in my life of taking meds. 6 weeks of taking 20mg Fluxotine an I guess you could say they have kicked in. I feel very much on a level now.

Hope you are in touch with your medical team supporting you on this journey.. as others said it can take weeks to stabilise and if not, there are other options. It gets worse before it gets better. A very intense cycle of spinning thoughts until you and the pill find the harmony in your brain. Some side effects carry on beyond this period, but before you make hasty decisions to switch.. also discuss changing the dose. And other complementary therapies.. all the best.

Sertraline had exactly the opposite effect on me, damped down my desire and certainly stamped on my ability! My emotions have slowly stabilised and i have more than just platonic interest again, but my body is still misbehaving. Fortunately the doc gave me some pills that do help with that when necessary.

Top tip - be careful not to mix up the sertraline and sildenafil packets in your handbag...

My doctor did offer me meds, particularly the one that you mentioned OP and listed possible side effects. She didn't mention sex but told me it can make you worse before feeling better.

I decided against the meds at the time.

I still have days and times where anxiety strikes and in some situations I lack confidence, but have made great strides andI hope you do too OP.

As the post I've just read has said if anyone wants to talk, I'm only a message away.

I'm much hornier when stressed. It's a distraction technique/stress response. (Common with sex addicts, if you believe in such a thing)

Great Harwood, Blackburn

I was on sirtraline 150mg, and it totally knocked my sex drive out, and when I did manage to have sex it took so long to even ejaculate we both got annoyed at it.

Therapy sessions helped me loads because I could talk to someone who had no connection to me or what I was going through.

All I will say is that for us guys we should speek up and not be ashamed of ourselves for being depressed. Some things we can't control in life but we can all stand strong together and share our experience with each other because what worked for you might be something that the othe person hasn't tried.

Ahh my girlfriend used to be on sertraline and it totally fucked her up. It gave her permanent headaches which she still gets even though she isnt in them any more. We are both on citalopram which seems to help us both. Hood luck with your illness buddy, you can make it through I'm sure
