What should i do or not do to avoid getting stung with rip off phone bills while on holiday because we have heard such horror stories ??

call your supplier and get your roaming data turned off..

You can turn it off on your phone as well, just untick 'Use Packet Data' and 'Data Roaming'. You can find this by going to settings, Wireless and Networks and then Mobile Networks
