I’m far from home and alone.

I’m very far north in Norway and feeling incredible home sick and anxious.

I tell my friends and all I get is you’re so lucky to be able to do this but I’m can’t see past my anxiety anymore.

I feel trapped, set sail from here late tonight and then another 2 full days at sea before a one day stop and then another 2 full days at sea.

The ships like a floating retirement home so I don’t feel I fit in anywhere.

So all I’m doing is isolating myself.

It’s actually freaking me out.

I know I’m lucky, but today all I want is to see my son and be home.

How do you all deal with anxiety when it really becomes strong?

Music, art, the thousand yard stare. You can be anywhere you want to be, with the right music, with the images when you close your eyes.....

... I spent over 15 years working overseas, there were times when I felt like a shell of a human being and then I would put on some music, close my eyes and stare deep into my memories. The scents of my past would come, I could hear the whispered laughter of all those I loved and I was home again...

Deep breathing. Mindfulness if you know it. Grounding: focus on items you can detect with your senses (see, smell, taste, touch, hear). Listen to music. Talk yourself through it if you can.

This too shall pass.

No automatic charge it seems.

And that’s on top of the non optional gratuities paid before boarding

So drying tears, having a shower and heading out to a -8 deck

Look for the little things. The scenery, the peace, the nice food and drinks. Probably among the passengers there are some people you can relate to?

I think a key part is understanding the triggers and using grounding techniques. When you feel like it’s taking a hold of you then think of those techniques to stay grounded and stay positive... it’s also quite healthy to find something to fidget with whilst experiencing anxiety. A rubber band, a coin... anything you can mess around with really.

I have an idea of how you're feeling op.

Different circumstances but the same feelings.

I'm off to work soon and my anxiety levels are through the roof. I know all the coping mechanisms I should be using but I just dont seem to be able to gain control. Anxiety is taking over.

I will at least be home again tonight but I'm still anxious about that too.

It's such a shame that its ruining your cruise. I think the fresh air will do you good.

Good luck op

Thank you everyone, I walked the deck a few times and reminded myself how far I have come from a few years ago.

And tonight was rewarded with an amazing display of the northern lights.

I feel blessed.

Again thank you
