I (Luke) have been a big Star Wars fan since I was a kid. Hannah and I watched the original on Saturday. It's still a great film and my favourite of all of them.

To be honest, only the original trilogy does it for me. That sort of thing had never been seen before so it was really startling. It is impossible to capture that original magic again because sci-fi is commonplace now.

I thought episodes 1-3 were OK but not great. I thought episode 7 was enjoyable with some good ideas but the story was largely just a rehash of episode 4 and bits of 5 and 6. I quite liked episode 8 but it was not without issues.

I will certainly go and see episode 9 and I'm likely to enjoy it but I'm not chomping at the bit.

But episodes 4-6 rock, even the Ewoks!

I love Star-Wars, and don't think that there's been a bad film from the lot, personally I think that The Last Jedi has been the best of the lot and it knocked A New Hope of the top spot in MY all time favourite films.

I don’t think any of them will beat The Empire Strikes Back

Even though 7/8 have way out played 1-3, they are predictable in that follow a similar background story of 4/5. I’m expecting similar from 9....

Empire strikes back is a masterpiece. A new hope was my least favourite of the original 3. ROTJ I liked, I greatly enjoy the emporer. Ian Mcdiarmid plays him so well.

The problems with 1-3 is that George lucas had way too much control over everything. The man is amazing at giving an outline and shell of a story, he is terrible at screenplay and directing, especially directing people. There is a reason why empire is as good as it was, it is the movie he had the least control over. If he had similar control over 1-3 they would have been much better because the story arch was good the screenplay and directing is what suffered - the acting in places was bad that is also partially the directors fault just as much as the actor.

7 was OK, it helped reclaim some original trilogy magic back, however mostly through nostalgia of Harrison Ford and chewie. The movie itself was plot point for plot point nothing more than a new hope reboot. With the exception of Rey, who is far too powerful at that point in the movie.

So that brings us to the abomination of the last jedi... The movie that its sole purpose was to shatter everything that came before just because it could. The director himself admits this (well he trys to play it up like it was a good idea), actors and even JJ Abrams said that Rian Johnson threw away, and went his own direction completely from the brief story outline JJ had created with TFA. TLJ was weak, it had pointless plot lines that went nowhere, it avoided fan service for the sake of intentionally pissing people off. There is a reason it is the most disliked and majority hated star wars movie. Even people who slated 1-3 religiously are rating it lower.

9 has a lot to make up for and a lot to live up to. It needs to go out with not only a bang but also a satisfactory conclusion - not a total rehash of what came before but certainly not "subvert expectations".

I'm looking forward to episode 9. Although right now I'm far more interested by the first episode of The Mandalorian in November.

Seen the trailer and looks like, if they do it right, that it could be an epically good series. On the flip side they could balls it right up...

Without reviving the original characters, the force awakens and the last jedi would be pretty thin. The CGI is breathtaking and light years away from Lucas using models but still doesn't make them good movies. The new characters have massive expectations to live up to and so far they haven't. It will be interesting to see what they do when Ewan McGregor returns to the franchise.

Star wars fan until the last jedi.

1 of the worst movies ever made.

1st time I've never been excited for a star wars movie.

Even George lucases terrible prequels couldn't diminish my hope and excitement completely but the last jedi made me lose all connection to the force awakens too as there was no continuity at all.

I'll watch this at Xmas just to watch something and go cinema and feel I'm enjoying Xmas otherwise I am not expecting anything good at all.

The trailers as usual were ok and probably better than the movie will ever be haha

Oh it will be similar, they will be too scared to move away from what came before (because they fucked up and went much too far with Last Jedi). However with regards to trailers, especially Disney, they do very well at making trailers that appear one way - Last Jedi looked like it was going to be good for example...

I expect it will be a little more than RoTJ reboot.

And in what way has it become “woke”? Do you mean that there is a fight against fascism and imperialism, well that was going on from the start. Or that major characters don’t have to be white and women can be kick ass? That’s called the 21st century.

Yes... yes, and more yes. I go with an open mind. I expect gapping plot holes, characters which are two dimensional and a fairly predictable story. But there will be spectacular moments, plot twists and a chase in space. I don’t want a chin stroking art house master piece, I want some amazing eye popping space opera.

"I was a fan before J.J. abrams and Disney spat on the franchise and bastardized it with this new "woke" trilogy. I'll pass and continue to appreciate the originals thank you

What's "woke" about the new films? Genuinely confused by that... I couod be being thick mind...

The main complaint that people made was the new cast wasn't all white and male dominated. Some fans complained that characters were added, that didn't add anything to the star wars canon. Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Trans characters in particular.

You can't please everyone.

You need new characters can’t have 70 year olds running around trying to save the galaxy from the evil empire haha

Carrie Fisher will be in the movie............But like I said Star Wars fans can be unforgiving. They nearly drove the guy that played Jar Jar to suicide. They also showed no love for Hayden Christansen who played Anakin Skywalker in revenge of the sith."

She will be yes, some of it not really her but CGI. Fans can be cruel but actors shouldn’t take it personally, it’s a row against the story writers and not the actors. Anakin was just bad casting.... a pretty boy supposed to turn evil and into Darth Vader a character do well known.

My biggest bug with this is when the changed the ending to ROTJ and the Anakin from 1-3 ghost replaces the original actor from 4-6 !!

Of the new lot The Last Jedi was the best. Bold and different and that's what we wanted especially after Force Awakens.

Less said about Rise of Skywalker the better although a nice title and that little Babu fella.

Check out my film lists in the forum. Type in the 'year' in search field.
