I don't think there's one definition because a person can be dominant with one person and submissive with another, it depends on the dynamic.

There will be people who will say you need to fit certain criteria though.

I agree with this.

I think that a lot of people think that they 'should' be dominant based on societal gender roles and influenced by porn to a varying degree. In reality they tend to think that rough or borderline abusive sex is being dominant.

When it comes to actual D/s dynamics, it depends entirely on the individual couple.

I think for some people, they just are. There are certain aspects of my sexuality which aren't at all fluid, and have been part of my subconscious long before I knew how to express them sexually. (That being said, I'm not dominant)

I don't think there is an exact way to describe it. I have played with guys who claim not to be dominant in anyway shape or form yet I've found that naturally I submit to them as they have something about them that just oozes dominance. Where as other that say they are Dom's I've found I just become Bratty with

I'm not disagreeing with you I'm just saying if you are into being dominant in order to exude that to the submissive you would have to have the confidence to pass it off, some people confident or not have no interest in being a dom or a sub
