Oddly, as a kid, whenever I saw Floella Benjamin on Play school, she scared the Bee Jesussss out of me...

Brian Cant was a tad scary as well... Anyone else??

I used to love Brian Cant - his voice was really soothing.

Oddly enough, as a child I never believed or liked Jimmy Saville. He didn’t scare me but I remember watching Jim’l Fix It and thinking ‘he doesn’t like kids’ Ironically, but I was a kid myself and had no knowledge of the type of horrors he committed.

I was the same with Saville, Jim'll fix it used to creep me out as a kid. He just always seemed disinterested to me.

Jimmy Saville came to mind, though I am quite prepared to accept that what later came to light has made me misremember what I thought at the time. I certainly always thought he looked a bit odd. Always liked Rolf Harris and Gary Glitter when I was younger.

Oi! I won’t hear a word against him. I went on Jim will fix it as I always wanted to milk a cow while blindfolded!

On a serious note, about 25 years ago I was playing golf with a guy that was a regular at Stoke Mandeville, he said then that “all the nurses there fucking hate him”.

Sentiment shared exactly. Kids aren't stupid. We knew there was something wrong with Savile. I don't think any of us were really surprised. Maybe the sheer scale of his crimes, but not the fact he was a creep...

In the middle

Reading through this has made me feel sooo much better, I thought half my fears were quite irrational

Worzel Gummige terrified me when he changed his head, could never work out what Zippy was supposed to be but I didn’t like it, Ragitty from Rupert Bear stories freaked me out too, several Dr Who characters had me hiding behind the sofa

As for real celebs I never liked Norman Wisdom, Savile goes without saying, he looked strange to me, Freddy Starr was so manic he made me nervous when he came on the telly

And there was one with some kids playing on a farm around the machinery - didn’t end well for one lad I seem to remember.

Yeah there’s no need for any of these now as most kids don’t go out playing where their adults can’t monitor them or out of range of their wifi

OK please don't laugh but Siobhan Fahey from Bananarama. In fact when I was about 10, maybe even younger, I had a crazy nightmare that I was abducted by Bananarama and forced to do stuff with/to them. Now, 13 year old me would have been really into this but as a 10 year old I was actually genuinely distressed by the the whole thing. Goodness knows what I'd been watching on telly to make me that scared of a popular girl-pop band, but I was genuinely a bit shaken by it!

This one is going to sound odd here... Laurel and Hardy. Perhaps not the characters but the situation they got into.. Two that stick in my mind... An incident with a barrel of water where one of them becomes full of water and is barrel shaped if I remember. I decided that must not have been humanely possible and he must have died somehow and come back to life. Another one involved soap powder and mixing too much ..... I think that is a reflection of the scrapes I used to get into...
