Ok all so I have 2 boys 9 and 11...can anyone suggest ideas for entertainment in London... know this is not mumsnet but worth a go.

London dungeon, London eye, zorbing, ARCELORMITTAL ORBIT or helicopter ride, London river cruise, football, or Google things to do in London with family and a whole list of things will pop up.

Look at the group visit tickets as you can save a lot of money..

Natural history museum and science museum are always my go to.. and a visit to Hamleys. Just a walk along the river can be good too.

Natural history museum, it's free and the interactive displays for young people are amazing . I spent ages having a go on them all

Princess Diana's park. Opposite the Queensway tube station.

Peddle boats in Hyde Park.

Look on the TFL site, there's a bus map that shows which buses go past tourist attractions. Much cheaper than paying for tourist buses.

There's a park behind the London Eye. A nice park in the Stratford Olympic village area.

Lego shop in Leicester Square. M&M's shop opposite.

Greenwich is a great day out - Maritime Museum, see the Cutty Sark, Painted Hall, a walk up to the Observatory to help knacker them out...if you wander around the main buildings by the river it's fun to spot how many bits you recognise from different movies, so many have been shot there. The Old Town has a lovely market too and some nice non-expensive eating options.

You can get the tour boats there and back from Westminster Pier which have a great commentary and are entertaining even for kids, or the speedy one which uses an Oyster card.

Also, not sure if you are a regular visitor to London, but your 9yr old will travel free on the tube, buses, boat that take Oyster, and your 11yr old can too if you get a Photo ZipCard. They're free to get and means you could hare all over London for next to nothing together

Kayaking - I’m pretty sure you can do it on the canals in north London.

Geocaching.

Picnic and some catching toys in Kew Gardens.

I live Greenwich park, when I'm in London I need my green fix , being a country boy , it's my go to place

london eye, madame tussauds, natural history museum and V&A, hamleys, leicester square troccodero, grenwich ferry or hydrofoil so many places to go, entertainment down by riverside at waterloo embankment

London Museum near Barbican is great

Postman's Park near St Paul's with The Watts Memorial to Heroic Self- Sacrifice is a hidden gem but may be a little over their heads at that age.

The Tower Bridge Experience is not unreasonably priced, very interesting and takes you across the walkways at the top - follow that with a walk along the south side of the river - takes you past HMS Belfast, The Globe Theatre, The London Eye amongst other things (would recommend a slight diversion at London Bridge to take in Borough Market) if you then cross the river just after the London Eye you can walk into Covent Garden and all it has to offer including the aforementioned London Transport Museum

The museums will be stupid busy in October half term

You will prob have to queue for a long time

Also, not sure the Imperial War Museum would be my first choice for a nine year old

North London

A few places, Better Extreme (trampoline park) is good fun. You've got Willow Farm as well which is further north in St Alban's which you can train to.

Thorpe Park as well is accessible from Waterloo.

My suggestion would be to not try to do to much traveling around London or you'll end up with tired kids and a very stressful day when it should be fun.

Pick an area that has a couple of things they're interested in and relax.

For example Kensington has the national history museum and the science museum which usually cater for both your kids ages and you could do changing of the guard at Buckingham palace(2-3 miles away) then a picnic in the park.

Stamford bridge stadium tour if they're into football isn't far from Kensington.

There are a couple of open top bus routes in London that are cheap (as they're normal not tours) but they go past a few of the big land marks.

With my kids I did the shard trip you can stay up as long as you like they lived that

Also not far away is a tower for the fire of London that was good

The London bus tour is good and you can get in and off as you like
