How regularly do people get tested?

Hi All, Saz here. I'm on Fab as part of a couple and also as a single female. We'd only ever have sex with people with condoms involved and we get tested regularly. It's always a question we ask before any potential meet re if they've been tested recently. Obviously, no offence intended but it's an important question and, something we feel should be openly discussed.

It just got me thinking of how regularly people get tested. From people we've met and spoken to, sexual health is a big thing for them which is great to hear.

No glove, no love, right?! Lol. S x

We make sure we both get tested at the same time every three months.

It takes no time at all to do the self test kit and send it off. Results in a text a week later.

No reason not to.

I've just watched this post sink while other nonsense rises.....

....I guess it's dependent on how often you're changing partners....?

Myself, I'm not a "proper swinger" so that's not often but I'd always get myself tested between each new partner to reassure everyone including myself. For you proper swingers out there I have no idea what's normal....? Be safe though

Testing is all well and good. But are you getting tested on the NHS or buying these kits and paying for the results. ?

If it is a NHS freebie, surely this is wrong, just so people can continue to swing.

If people are paying, then no problem

Yes. It also depends on who I meet. I think that when it comes to sexual health *you* have to be the one taking responsibility for it. I do ask people about it because sometimes you have to. I've an appointment on Friday and while I hate waiting and the inevitable delays, I always feel quite chuffed and like an adult for going and being on top of it.

Sorry but is this for real? Using that logic we shouldn't get birth control on the NHS, as we're trying to enjoy sex without getting pregnant.

Every 3 months, first week of the month.

I book my next appointment while I'm there.

But if I'd been to a club, or met someone new, I'll get tested the same week, regardless of time frame, and I wouldn't have sex with my regular partner until I'd had my results

Thank you, like you have said it is a Forum and everyone has an opinion.

I wasn't suggesting people shouldn't be tested.

What i was suggesting, is We (yes all of us on a site like this), choose to swing and have multiple encounters and that is the reason most get tested.

If people didnt swing, 90% wouldnt need to get tested.

Therefore is it right to use the NHS to fund a lifestyle, that is all i am saying.

I haven't suggested anything about smokers or accident victims or Fat people as one person has put it, just the morality of asking the cash strapped NHS to fund something like this.

I haven't suggested anything about smokers or accident victims or Fat people as one person has put it, just the morality of asking the cash strapped NHS to fund something like this."

90% I think you need to check those figures again, 10% of the human population are swingers????

Christ you dont need to be a swinger to have multiple encounters!

What about those that dont swing but are very promiscuous, I'll give an example.....my son! By the time he was 25 he had had genital warts, clamidia x3, gonorrhea and a child....that's just 1 example of a none swinging person.

I think the none swinging population are more ignorant of the NHS facilities so we could be the ones actually keeping them in a job....( this is a joke )

it is there for a reason, at least we are the ones thinking of ourselves and others!

"I get tested every 12 to 15 weeks, if not sooner, if a condom shreds or tears, which has happened more than once unfortunately

Yeah, unfortunately, condoms can tear and would always get tested straight away. X"

Just so you know, if the person you were with when the condom broke has something.. It'd take a couple of weeks before it would show on tests for you..

For example - you're with "John" and he has chlamydia. The condom breaks. You go get tested immediately. You get a negative result and think you're clear. But you could have caught it but it wouldn't show up on tests for 2 weeks.

Unless "John" knows and discloses about the chlamydia (in which case you'd be treated, as a contact) I think you'd have to wait 2 weeks before you could get an accurate test result.

This was exactly what I was thinking when reading that people get tested immediately after meeting. Unfortunately it wouldn’t show until after the window period has elapsed.

I always ask when someone has last been tested, but have to say, I do wonder sometimes if people are being fully honest with their answers.

I get tested every 3 months. Have never used the home testing kits, but will probably do so for my upcoming one next month.

The current advice is 6 weeks. Personally if I had a condom tear i would get tested straight away so I could tell that person my current status and then again in 6 weeks.

HIV it's 3 months if that is also a concern.

That's a good way of doing it. Would you continue bareback with your regular partner in the meantime?

I know it's 6 weeks after a known infection, because the dead dna of the treated/killed bacteria are still present for that long and still show on a test, but I believe a new infection should show in 2 weeks. For gonorrhoea or chlamydia at least.

And those who practice safe sex every time.. Does that apply if you give oral too?

Because if they have something, you could get it in your throat and pass it on to the next guy, or your regular partner, who could then infect you vaginally.

I'm far from perfect and I'm not making accusations or anything, I'm genuinely curious.

Yeah, doc does say not to get tested until 2 weeks after a meet so that results are accurate. X

I don't currently bareback with anyone but if I did and had a split condom I would refrain until I had a clear test at least 6 weeks later.

An infection can shoe earlier but the current advice is that if you think you have been exposed (I.e. a split condom) that it is not until 6 weeks after that you can rely on an a clear test for chlamydia and gonorrhea. At least that is what we have been advised in my work and what the sexual health clinic I use says.

Of course there are risks with oral too which is why I get tested about every 4 months anyway even without a split condom. It would be rare that I have slept with more than one new partner in that timeframe and everyone I sleep with is aware I sleep with other people so everyone is aware of the risk and I trust us all to be open with each other if we had a positive result. A partner recently had a condom split and he has been tested and will be getting tested again when it has been 6 weeks. He is also abstaining from recieving oral sex in the meantime. It's almost impossible to remove all risk but you can do what you can to reduce it.

Hi op!

I get tested about 3-4 times per year at my local gum clinic - and 2 weeks after any condom ‘accidents’ - ie them coming off or tearing - as I’m told that’s the incubation period for many std’s!

As a single I used to have a lot more than 1-2 new partners every 3-6 months but always played safe! Now I’m seeing someone and play bare with him - but if/when we introduce others in our sex life then we’ll obviously use condoms!

***Update*** I just completed an at home std test with letsgetchecked.com which I bought in Hickey's pharmacy in Ireland. Have to collect blood and urine yourself and send it back. Results are ready in 2-5 days. You get a call from a nurse before they upload your results to an online app which you have log in details for. Got mine today after 3 days which was great. All good.

They've different tests varying in price. The instructions are simple to follow and there's a prepaid envelope to post everything back to the lab in. I wasn't mad on taking the blood sample but I did it, lol. Hope this helps anyone who is hoping to do an at home test. I would recommend it for sure. Mrs x

"Testing is all well and good. But are you getting tested on the NHS or buying these kits and paying for the results. ?

If it is a NHS freebie, surely this is wrong, just so people can continue to swing.

If people are paying, then no problem

Wtf."

There is fuck all free on the nhs.

It is paid for through ni and tax.

Your logic would mean nothing should be tested or treated because life styles play a big part in lots of different health problems.

So the government could just say your diet is out of control and we need to check for diabeties but you need to pay for the test since its your lifestyle.

Its tory logic.

when i was riding we were drug tested without warning.

you always had to make sure it was known where you were going to be and they could show up at anytime day or night.

these tests showed up many things include one time when another rider i was with gave a test and then after a second sample was rushed off for cancer treatment.

saved his life.

I go every 4 to 6 weeks depending on how active I've been. During this time I've not been going as often but my sexual antics are severely restricted. I've actually been monogamous
