BOLDON COLLIERY

Apparently the fire brigade could be going on strike in 2 weeks time....David Cameron has advised the public to set fire to their homes tonight as a precaution.

its true they are over paid most of them have two jobs and spend most of their time sitting about as for not needing their services that is no excuse we have used the doctors and hospitals and have nothing but respect for these hard wworking undervalued people

They were not unpopular when I needed them thats for sure

I know MOST polic and nurses no doubt do a great job, but putting out fires is not exactly a walk in the park

all emergency workers do a great job. its not untill YOU need them that you value their services. and dont forget some of these people have given their lives to save others, WOULD you do that, think before you speak!!!!

I have friends in all the emergency services and you have the usual banter but say something bad about one of them and find out what answer you get of rest. My best mate is a serving royal marine and he recons you have to be mad to go into a burning building or see children that are hurt or dead from a bloke that gets shot at for a job

Fire fighters get paid alot less than MP and I know who I prefer to be standing next to. 999 crews are there when you need them most putting it on the line and always ready to help everyone should be thankful and if you think you can do better stand up and join up.

to be fair i have respect for all emergency services, think they all do a great job and are very much under appreciated, you only have to watch fly on the wall docs to see that

i am just a little saddened that such contempt comes from within the other emergency services

This week alone my best friend has had the joy of seeing a young motorcyclist crushed by the head when they collieded with and were then run over by a skip lorry. A house fire with a fatality and attended several grass fires set alight by bored youths. Am sure he would much rather be fitting smoke alarms which he complains about having to do weekly!

Well my Dad was a firefighter,im a nurse and my brother works with the other emergency service

Ive never heard anyone I work with moan about then fireservice,you choose your job you know what you're getting into

The bitterness is pointless,if people don't like the fact that their job may not seem as easy as someone elses then change jobs

I would'nt say a bad word about any of the emergency services,I know what they have to deal with on a daily basis

Isn't that the best thing for them to be doing sitting around? At least it means they have not to be risking their lives saving others. I hope you never need them

I'd rather fit fire alarms all day than spend my time and effort searching a burning / burnt out building looking for un-accounted persons. They do a good job by doing very little - they less they do the better in my eyes. The burnt out buildings and homes and the hazards I encountered when doing OP Fresco made me think about their job, and I was trained to fight fires at sea in confined shut down spaces. As for the wages, there are plenty wanting to join them and very seem to leave the fire service, so wages are paid accordingly.

When the Police and Ambulance services are present at a serious road traffic accident they are damn happy that the Fire Brigade are there to cut people out of vehicle wrecks....same goes for house fires, building collapses, terrorist incidents, train wrecks....
