Wired home remedies

So given the time of year I, like others am not immune from the viruses doing the rounds at the moment (no not man flu that’s much worse). Needless to say I’m feeling a little runned down. I’m not after health advice (I work in health care) but as I reach for my vitamin C’s, the apple cider and turmeric, I’m interested to know;

What other quirky home remedies that you know of? What are they for? Have you tried them?

Wired or weird? Weird ones tend to be old fashioned and plant based so in some respects describing them as ‘weird’ is strangely accurate.

It's not really a home remedy , but my grandmother always had half a raw onion next to the bed if my grandad was I'll with manflu or a bug. She swore it absorbed germs. Apparently it's since been proven that onions absorb stuff if left cut open. But then my great gran was proper Romany, had a bow top and everything .

My grandmother kept a cut onion under her bed to ward off colds.

Cabbage leaves in your bra ease mastitis in breast feeding women (this works).

Taking a child with whooping cough to breathe the tar fumes from road works will cure it.

If you have a chest infection rub some hen dung over your chest and on the bridge of the nose.

Its not the easiest thing to find unless you know someone with hens as it has to be applied straight out of the hen and still warm for it to work.
