Bad verifications?

Jump to newest

Do people ever give bad verifications on here? I've never seen any. If there's a bad experience, do we just not bother verifying?

Then again, we could just hide any bad verifications, I guess. But would it be better if we got and showed all verifications, both good and bad? Would that produce more accurate "reviews" of people?

Thoughts?

Surely those who received a bad veri would have blocked that user so their veri wouldn't show ..

What if we couldn't hide any verifications, though? Would that produce a truer picture? After all, if you're selling certain stuff online, you can't cherry pick which reviews you show on feedback.

There are plenty of tongue in cheek bad ones but in reality if it was a really bad meet you would not want to remember it never mind verify.

There are 2 sides to each story I believe.

If I had a bad veri, would you decide not to meet me because of that?

But would you want to warn others off?

I don't know. Just thinking as I'm typing. Any system could be gamed to be fair. And if all veris had to be shown, I bet that would introduce a whole new problem of trolling veris.

Depends on the details of the veri. It's like, say, a review for a laptop. If I read reviews for a thing I want to get online, I look at reviews. If there are sensible reviews with valid negatives, I likely won't buy the thing. If it's clear the product won't fit what I want or need.

Warning others in a bad veri is like naming and shaming publicly. And that's not allowed on fab I believe.

Not really advocating change. Just curious about people's thoughts.

If a woman turned a man down he could do her a nasty veri and it would be shown even though it was a lie.

A good veri doesn't prove anything anyway.

To be fair, I wouldn't ever want to be nasty on here to anybody. That's something I really like about the way veris and blocking work here. Nasty people can be easily ignored and blocked.

Typo. I meant to say: I think trolling and nasty veris would sprout like s. A fair point.

I've seen a bad veri. Something along the lines of "disappointing meet, just laid there like a fish".

There are, of course, two sides to every story.

I've had some crap meets on fab in the past. I never wanted to meet them again. Yet they contacted me after and asked for a veri.

Why?! To say how bad the meet was?

No. Delete and move on. Block if they're persisting.

Manchester (she/her)

I've hidden veris that are too graphic or reveal information about me (like my name) that I don't want public. (I also find I get less drama when I hide most of my veris and my summary)

I don't think forcing people to show bad veris or weighing them would work. It'd be abused.

Verifications proffer a theme, you can usually read into a profile by the common threads within someone’s numerous verifications and therefore take a view; it’s what’s not there that offers the most insight rather than publicly allowing negatively biased rhetoric.

Then to me that sounds like the writer didnt put much effort in if the other person just " laid there like a fish"

I admitted my idea was a bad one. It would be misused, as people have stated.

I guess I was just wondering if there was a way to discern the truth among what feels like overblown praise at times.

Not really. Read between the lines, trust your own judgement.

The truth is out there, OP...

You wouldn't know as you were not present when you read those veris - good or bad.

On a mooch

Taking away an individual’s choice of whether to show a veri or not will just leave it wide open to abuse by those out to cause trouble. In addition, some forget and include personal information that I wouldn’t wish shown in public.

We have no control whether someone decides to leave you a veri, having met them or not. At least now a fake veri can be hidden or removed if you block the user

I don't even read veris. What other people think about someone isn't of the slightest interest to me.

Then people could give fake verifications eg even though iv not met you i could still give a veri saying you were crap, turned up late, smelt, were abusive etc

I've said a few times now that I realise it was a bad idea. You're right. x

I guess it all depends on what you *think* veris are there for.

'Officially' they are to confirm genuineness (is that a word). So either you have seen on cam and confirmed real people or have met them in person and again confirm real people, that met as agreed.

They are not intended as ratings.
