I'm not really a massive football fan but I'm watching the match and I'm sad to see what is happening. But glad a stand is being made.

Too many times a team has played on while suffering the abuse.

If they walked off the pitch it would make a powerful statement.

Better late than never, the European and world footballing authorities have had there heads in the sand about this for far too long. Trifling fines and punitive punishments demonstrate how seriously they have really been taking it.

Time for massive points deductions, and teams being kicked out of tournaments. Then we'll see things change.

So the Bulgarian fans where making rasist chants and noises. So the players stopped the match, it then happened again. A load of the main group involved have now left. If it happens again the players will walk off. Iv not explained it well maybe someone else can help out.

If the racism continues in the second half under new UEFA rules the referee can stop the match and take the players off the pitch...

Steps 1 and 2 have already taken place so if we get to Step 3 this is when the game can be abandoned....

Punishing the majority for what they are doing isn't the answer for me,

Most of their own fans will be disgusted by it as well,

Fine their FA and make them locate them with the help of the police and stop them attending games games etc

There is a very worrying rise in racism and intolerence all over the world at the moment. To quote Basil Fawlty "This is exactly how Nazi Germany started!". And this country is far from blameless. All right-minded people have to stand up to racism and bigotry wherever we see it.

Thus protocol has apparently been in place for more than 10 years .. and this is the first time I've seen our stay to be implemented

England needed to make a proper stand and walk off the pitch the second half players still getting abused so the referee should follow the correct procedures and abandoned the game so for me the pa announcement and the 6 minutes stoppage won’t make a blind bit of difference btw we as a nation need to sort our racism problems out before we start laying into other nations I really felt for Tyrone mings debut for his country and was subjected to that I take my hat off to sterling as he rammed it back at them in the best possible way sadly we will be discussing this again and again until proper action is taken like walking off or kicking the clubs or nations out off competitions

OK so there are some good points there but on the whole it was a good thing and step in the right direction but I agree it needs to go further.

Its not a football problem its a society problem

Walking off and all these things will not work punishing countrys and clubs for the attitudes of there fans will do nothing but push them further down that path

People dont like to be told what to do it makes them defencive if you tell them there wrong got to be cleverer than that

Walking off shows the racists they've won and that they can get a game stopped at any time.

Should be undercover plain cloths spotters in the crowd and people monitoring CCTV of the crowd and then snatch out the ring leaders and worst offenders and come down on them like a tonne of bricks with prison sentences and make them report to police stations when any game is actually taking place

no i suggest people listen to john barnes

It will never be removed from life just like anything were people abuse another set of people all they can do is keep educating in schools until it filters thru i think its come a long way in a short amount of time when you consider 20 30 yrs ago racism was rife i remember as a kid fighting a lad who called my mate chocolate face before battering him with his 4 mates just cos he was black and he wasnt the only kid i think that social media is making it shine much more than back then tho

I was listening to John Barnes on talkSPORT regarding the mendy and silva incident and John was absolutely spot on in what he said about the situation and that it wasn’t offensive

Interview with Bulgarian manager . . Did I hear him correctly?

"This has never happened before in our football, it's only now that we play England"

Does he really mean that in his mind it's England's fault that this behaviour has taken place?

Fair comment . . I agree but they aren't the only ones. . Russians, Dutch to name two are very guilty of this too.

Huddersfield /derby cinemas

Although a partial closure of the ground , as punishment for previous racist abuse of opposition players , may have seemed a good idea , it probably just meant that propper Bulgarian football fans were unable to obtain tickets , The group of fans seen leaving at half-time did appear to probably be the main culprits , what I did notice was that they did not appear to have been escorted out by either police or stewards but seemed to be leaving of their own accord , what was also noticeable was that the other fans in the stand were not appearing to make eye contact with them , giving the impression they were wary of them , maybe frightened . Let us not get carried away with a " hollier-than-thou" attitude though because although this behaviour does thankfully seem to be dissapering from our football terraces if we think it is a dim and distant past in our society we are unfortunately incorrect

Seems football and the telegraph and the mail decided to make a stand against hate this week. Long may it continue.

Nobody is ever going to hiss at spurs, or call a man u fan a "Munich" and Clive Tyldesley isn't feigning abhorrence in the commentary box he was just scared to speak out when Ron Atkinson called Marcel Desailly a lazy fucking n*****.

If this is an about face it's long overdue and I welcome it. Just seems a bit... I dunno... False.

Let's hope it's for real

Pretty much, if it was Gazza singing anti catholic songs it would be titled "Gazza looks in good health as he parties the night away with pals".

lol

End of the day they chanted racist stuff, but they were ultras, they will chant anti white stuff too, and at club level they will chant against their own race and even own town.

Its been stamped out in UK because it leads to more violence against ordinary football goers in the UK, but hasnt been stamped out in Europe. From France to eastern europe they chant mad, mad stuff at each other, because normally thats where it ends, and if fights do break out, its ultra vs ultra and rarely like people attacked in a cafe like used to happen in the UK.
