"to smack or not to smack?"

you're being very controversial today.....lolol

those that know me will know that I usually advocate locking them in the cellar, or nailing their feet to the floor.......either method can work a treat......

but being serious for a second...which is a long time for me...

used to work with wayward kids.....well they were maniacs really who spent their days inventing ways to try and kill me...anyway, they were easily socialised without physical chastisement, drugs or lobotomies...so see no need to smack a child so long as the parent has set firm boundaries and consistently deals with any breach of those boundaries

I was bought up by two very good parents .

Father didnt ever raise his hand but left chastisement to my mother who yes did smack us if we ever crossed THAT line.

She also used a cane on very rare occasions.

Do i feel i was abused etc.

No i dont as i was an extremely wilful child and think i managed to turn her hair white over night.

Did i smack my child...?

Yes i did but this was an exception rather than the rule.

My own personal opinion is that the DO gooders who advocate no smacking now stand back while the country trys and fails to manage their kids and we have to live with the after affects of it.

The balance has shifted from the parent to the child and they pretty much do as they like where ever.

Having no morals and no guidelines and no values and definately no respect for anyone or anything.

I dont say BEAT your child and those who do should face the consequeces.

What i am saying is, leave the decision to the parent who knows the child instead of some faceless do gooder who is probably to young to have kids or know how to raise them themselves.

Bored with mindless drivel, would rather see how people debate on subjects with substance.

Im in my rebellious phase lol

I for one, did smack my children as and when needed. They knew the boundaries and like all children pushed them. It was a rare occurance, but in my eyes suitable punishment for the crime.

But then I am also of the opinion that corporal punishment should be reintroduced into schools.

My mother beat me senseless with garden canes etc...all it ever did was made me rebel more, was headed for a life of naughtiness and prison, and all because I just wanted to stick 2 fingers up at my mother and tell her the cane didn't work!

It took a few years of effort on my part to turn that attitude around, do I hate my mother? No, but then I would not invite her to come and live with me when she got old and infirm either.

Do I think beating the hell out of me did me any good? No. But do not believe I am the same personality I was when I was younger, but that's down to me not her.

I am certaioly not a do gooder, and I hate wishy washy social worker types (having been in that line of work once). I do believe that children can be brought up effectively without physical chastisement, and I do believe it can be done in such a way that they do not become so amoral, socially inept zombie that have no interests beyond their own immediate needs and satisfaction

Same here.

Respect is a dirty word these days.

We were taught this from an early age , your parents, anyone older than we were.

Definately the police and school teachers.

And god help us if we were ever in trouble with any of them.

Todays kids make me ashamed to be honest and i hate the way they conduct themselves.

And im sorry to say, the fault lies with the bad parenting of said children.

i have never raised a hand to my 2 kids

they know they have a line that if crossed you are in big trouble

Usally the "look" all moms will know what that is lol is enough for them to think moms not happy but if they carry on then a slightly raised voice usally dose the trick

I can honestly saw they have never given me any trouble

its all about respect and discipline

and their both teenagers

Children, just like wives, need a smack round the head every now and again just let them know who's boss, in my experience dishing out a black eye once in a while solves all disobedience problems

i was smacked as a child not often but now and again..... and my children now get a smack on the hand if they cross the line...... im not talking a severe beating but a slap.... i think if you beat the child then yes they will rebel and it does no good.... but every now and then a swift sharp slap which isnt the norm has the disired affect

Take it from me an ex cop, you cant touch the little blighters and if they are under 10 they are below the age of criminal responsibility, and dont they know it, basically means they can get away with murder. Sermon over lol

I have 3 kids of verious ages and i have never lifted a hand to any of mine, felt like it at times but never done it lol

To me you can't put a child on the straight and narror by giving it a good slap, its like saying to a child 'stop fucking swearing!' hitting anyone else is wrong and all your doing is teaching them its ok to slap someone so long as they to small to hit you back!!

just my opinion tho
