In France 91 days

Just got a speeding fine €90

There’s a bit of imbalance isn’t there

We got one 6 months later from France and we had cruise control on so it came as a real surprise

I got one last month up Carlisle way Said I was doing 38 in a 30. Had a lovely picture of the back of my car looking all sexy. Only problem was, I wasn’t in Carlisle on that day let alone week and the car in the picture was black , mines sliver I’m still in the appeal process cunts

I can go one better. I received a letter from the DVLA asking for my license as I had been disqualified for drink driving in an area I had never visited, let alone been breathalysed in.

Turns out someone else has the same name and date of birth. The courts searched the name and date of birth but not the address and gave my licence number to the DVLA.

DVLA could see what happened but said they couldn't correct it without the court telling them to. The court had to reopen the case and try me in my absence (obviously no evidence as it was someone else) overturn the conviction and instruct the DVLA of the incorrect conviction. Took over a week to reinstate my licence, but more worryingly I was driving while disqualified for 3 days before I got the letter requesting my licence so I was completely oblivious.

Apparently I should check online that my licence is valid every time I drive.

I had one similar but the automated registration thingy or the drone who checked it misread an 0 for an o or d or something but I could prove I was elsewhere.

The problem is they should verify with you before prosecuting

And I can add even more. Apparantly I have a virtual British driving licence with points in it. Well the points will be gone now. Reason being. I drive on an Irish eu licence so if I get a penalty for speeding all they can do is fine me , the points cant be applied to my licence. They said that the points would be applied to a virtual licence kept in record and should I ever transfer my Irish licence to a uk one the points would be there waiting for me. Yea right. I’m off to Dvla to transfer my licence this minute

It’s really tough in Germany. I’ve got so many pretty pics of me driving and speeding and fines ranging from €50-€150. If you’re more than 20 km faster than the speed limit, you lose your licence for 90 days.

That sounds like a good system. Better than some "road safety course in the uk"

Nobody listens to it and its just a waste of money and employers staff for the day.

Germany is my favourite country to drive kn. Becuase other road users can actually drive at speed and understand lane discipline

What are the speed traps like on the autobahn?

I've heard the speed limit is not as unrestricted as people think

I had 3 speeding tickets last year. 1st was 37 in a 30 zone. Had a clean licence, so did the speed awareness course. 2nd was also 37 in a 30 zone so had to take 3 points. Both of these were just inside the 30 zone slowing down from a 60 zone. 3rd was 73 on the M1. They dropped the limit to 60, so they put me on a motorway awareness course, so total of 3 points, and I now drive like Miss Daisy

Remember the 11th commandment

Thou shalt not get caught

Simple logic says, don't break the limit (or don't get caught breaking it) and so no fines or points are received.

As for speed awareness courses, not sure how they can be a waste of money as someone put it. They're paid for by the people attending so they avoid points and therefore potentially increased insurance premiums. In addition, they try to re-educate people on the dangers of driving at speeds in excess of the limit, or the conditions. Sometimes these courses are the first bit of driver training a person has done since they passed their test, sometimes for decades.

Driving is a privilege, not a given human right. If you value your licence, don't jeopardise it.

Right, that's my sensible head used today ... normal service will resume

You can drive as fast as you like on the autobahn in some places and then suddenly there’s a sign saying 110km for the next 100 metres for no apparent reason. And of course cameras

You can drive as fast as you like on the autobahn in some places and then suddenly there’s a sign saying 110km for the next 100 metres for no apparent reason. And of course cameras

I think that is to manage the traffic flow.Same as the temporary speed sides on uk motorways.

It avoids congestion.

I was at airport in Germany and hertz had a promotion to rent a porsche for 2 hours. I just drove it on the autobahn as fast as a could for the full 2hrs.

Coming right of the plane from the uk it felt criminal and sooo good
