I don't know about anyone else but A Moon Grey Cat and I have been having a ball listening to everyone's song suggestions! So can we have some more for our mixtapes please?

No music snobbery, put downs or one-upmanship...all genres, languages and decades welcome.

Just an interactive thread for all music lovers to share their favourites and maybe try something new

(Ps YouTube links appreciated!)

I was so pleased you liked my last instrumental suggestion so I'll give you another. See if you can find this...

True Confessions by Chroma

That has probably my favourite sax solo of all time in it, played by the late Bob Berg.

Also try...

Crazy She Calls Me by Guy Barker

That's one of my favourite jazz tracks by my favourite trumpeter, and it's just beautiful.

I started writing this off the prev thread, might as well drop it here in case anyone wants to read it. I caught up with the listening eventually.

Chippy Tea - Lancashire Hotpots - plain daft. live with some beers in you this band would be fun.

Would You Save Me Now - The John Hill Project

Superpower - Adam Lambert

Drops of Jupiter - Train

All three of these fit quite nicely together power pop.

Doin Time - Lana Del Ray... Not listened to her since her first album. I liked that album too. This has film soundtrack album written all over it.

Hold up - Beyonce... Always Beyonce, she's essential.

Duality - Slipknot... shocked I actually enjoyed this. Not as metal as I was expecting.

Boss Keloid - I struggled with this, my stoner rock pals would love it.

Chairlift - Bruises... I remember this song. Never knew what it was called or who it was by. Reminds me of Peter Bjorn and John era....

My Curse - Afghan Wigs, another band I've always meant to get into, loved this...

Cigarettes after Sex, yep lovely. Got a sweet spot for their REO Speedwagon cover too...

Talib Kweli - Just to Get By... I wanted to hate this for the Nina samples in the wrong time sequence, but its actually really good, how's it only got 12k views? 2002 as well...

But when you see the video and see how empowering it is.

Kate Bush is a lyrical genius just when you think you have a song figured out....and you think it's one thing. You peel a layer back and realise she is saying something else.

What a loving woman to write a song from the man's perspective about something a lot of men struggle to express or know how to feel about.

Thats the one... I always interrupted it that she dies in labour giving birth.

"know begins the work of the father"

You can see it either way that she survives or not.

That's what I mean about layers. Kate writes such tight songs but leaves the words loose enough to put your own emotion to it.

Her and sade can bring out emotion in anyone I reckon

Now this is an extremely eclectic handful of songs. I didn't know the Streisand one, had a listen it's prob a grower. I have loved the others at various stages.

Did you know that when that Divine Comedy song was in the charts there were also tracks in the top 40 by Ben Folds 5 and Super Furry Animals also called "something for the weekend". Quite a coincidence.

I think they are part of the vibe of the song though - which I take to be a mournful thing about love lost and a flat life - hence the flat pints...or maybe I'm thinking too much about it

While I'm waiting for software to load I'll add this. My fav songs people posted today were tear jerkers.

In light of that, and to make light, I played this among others;

Love is in the Air - John Paul Young

https://youtu.be/NNC0kIzM1Fo

As a back story JPY is a friend of my ex wife's (amazing woman) family. He said that his entire career, house, kids education etc was paid for with the royalty cheques to this one song. He said he, and his brother, made a bunch of money and then when the cheques dried up someone made a disco version and the money rolled in again. When they dried up again it got put on the Notting Hill soundtrack and the cheques got fat again.

A nice guy and a great song. Good on yer fella...

"I was so pleased you liked my last instrumental suggestion so I'll give you another.

I could get a bit of Chroma via SoundCloud, was struggling to find it. You don't have a link do you?

Guy Barker was lovely though"

Chroma is certainly tricky to cone across. It's not a well-known group although the members are mostly hugely-respected amongst musicians. They did one album together which is of a concert in Japan in about 1992.

Their concert is on YouTube. The piece I'm referring to starts at about 9:45.

"I’m loving the Ghosteen Album by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds currently.

In fact i even had a tear listening to “Waiting for You”

Oh my god, me too, I've been listening to it non stop since it came out. Bloody amazing album and I love the cover too. Ordered the vinyl from Amazon just so I can frame it and put it on the wall in my "office"

Nick Cave - Into My Arms is going to be our wedding song "

I read the lyrics to this as part of my Groom's speech!

There and to the left a bit

Just to throw something different out there - heard a snippet of this last night and it reminded me what a gloriously sumptuous piece of music it is and that I really must download it

Rhapsody In Blue - Gershwin

"How do you do the links ?"

Get your video up. Copy the URL in the address bar (on your phone: hold your thumb down till copy comes up, on PC highlight the URL and hit ctrl C) then paste in the forum post.

I should add hold thumb down till paste appears for you to select or Ctrl V to paste on PC.

I just wish that when links are posted here they could simply be clicked rather than having to copy paste them into a browser to see what they are

I just hold down on them for a couple of secs and they open. Maybe different on different phones though?

I find it so much easier when people give a link to check it out quickly, and then only search it on Spotify/Amazon if adding it to your music.
