I'm going to get my kit off so strangers can draw me

I've never done anything like this and I'm not sure if I feel nervous or excited.

It pays well and I'm thinking of xmas.

Has anyone else done this sort of thing?

No I haven’t - but it’s a bloody good idea as I’m totally skint! May I ask how you got the job? Do you just contact local colleges or art classes etc? And good on you op - I’m sure you’ll do fine - just ask them to make sure the heating’s on!

I saw the advert in my local post office window of all places!

Called today and start friday. I figure it's easy money?

I’ve been on the other side of the easel a lot in various art classes and I’ve talked to a number of models, both men and ladies. All have said that it’s a liberating experience, but also surprisingly hard work. Artists need stillness, and it’s hard to stay still. A couple of the models also talked quite candidly about how modelling altered their relationship with their body, in positive ways. They became more self aware and confident and in touch with their physicality. Seeing yourself through the eyes of an artist makes you realise how beautiful you are, how beautiful and varied the human form really is. I hope you enjoy the experience Xx

If you’ve got the confidence - absolutely go for it my lovely!

A gazillion years ago I was a lingerie model - and occasionally I had to stand with very little in front of a lot of fully dressed people! What worked for me until I got used to it was ‘turning the tables’ on them - ie imagining that I was fully dressed and they were all naked/semi naked! It worked for me!

Also - I need to start looking at post office windows!

Thank you

I visited a nudist beach on my own for the first time in the summer. It felt really good.

I spoke to the lady who runs the classes today and she was lovely and very appreciative. She explained that she starts her models off slowly before doing extended sittings and no one sits for longer than half hour without a break.

That sounds perfect. I’m glad the lady is responsive. It should be a wonderful experience. Sometimes the artists let you keep their sketches too!

It must have felt empowering going to a nudist beach on your own. We’ve only ever been as a couple. Not sure I’d be brave enough to go alone. Well done you! Xx

There are many art classes locally. They are perfectly respectful but they are nearly all men and the models are always attractive women. But it is harmless fun and I am sure you will be appreciated

Luckily that's not the case here or I wouldn't of got the job!!

She asked me no personal questions about my age or size etc. That's because it doesnt matter.

We can all look at pictures all day every day of "beautiful people" but this is about drawing/painting the human form as it is, not how we are lead to believe it should be by the media.

When I was In college I posed nude for art classes . The first few times I got erections which caused a few women to giggle. I did it for 3 reasons to make money . To hook up and to satisfy my exhibitionist fantasies . It accomplished all 3 .

I (Luke) used to do it at university because I was in with the arty crowd (I was studying music) and nobody could afford to pay for models for themselves. We tended to help each other out when we needed people for projects - or just an audience for a concert.

Dont forget that if you strip off and go straight to modelling you will have marks from your undies pressed into your skin. Either go commando or give some time between stripping off and posing.

Precisely it’s about admiring the body for what it is, a piece of art. Enjoy it

Just make sure they have a space heater in the room to keep you warm!

(Been both the model and the artist. It is liberating, but can get a bit chilly!)

Good luck!

The trick is to relax into the pose, and not need to move again until after the session. Also ensure it's a repeatable pose.

I've done bra fit modelling and posed naked for photography students when I was at university. I haven't done life modelling but I would. I have been a student doing life drawing however. We were very lucky at college to have a full time life model so we always had the same person. She was good fun and very good at her job. She always warned us if she needed to itch or stretch and then checked with us all when going back into position.

There was an exhibition of nudes over here in Cork about a year ago where they had an invite only opening night where anyone attending had to go nude also.

Amazingly there was no hanky panky at it. I guess the art crowd are clinical about nudity after all

Yes. It's fine. The most difficult thing about it is keeping very still for between 30 to 40 minutes for the longer drawings/paintings.

You can still talk to people. You get breaks if you need them (with your robe on) and the students are always interesting to chat with.

The money is handy but, trust me, it's not the most rewarding thing about the work.

Good luck.

Isn’t that the point though? They are there to draw/paint/photograph the models, not everything has to be about sex
