Beards/changing your look

In a mad moment I've just shaved off my beard and my face doesn't look like I remember it

I'm about 5 minutes away from trying to superglue it back on to prevent a complete freak out!

So good people of Fab, have you ever had an unbearding or haircut so severe you didn't recognise yourself in the mirror? How did you cope? Did you go back to the original style or just stick with the new look till you got used to it?

Style it out. It will be a change and will grow back soon enough.

I'm currently thinking about chopping off my 23 inches to a more manageable length. I veer from yay to nay hourly. Once it's gone it's gone for months and months!

And breathe It will grow back.

A bad haircut as a teen. From shoulder length to a quite shortish style. World collapsed. I was 14

Oh dear god. If I felt like this at 14 it would have been world ending. Well done for getting through it

Oh no OP! Do you think you look a bit younger now? Try and find something positive about it. A hairdresser once cut my curly hair while it was dry, insisting she knew what she was doing. It looked ridiculous curly and really short.

Trying so hard not to make a joke about 23 inches....

Thats a proper statement getting rid of it all in one go. I think I'd chicken out and take off a tiny bit at a time

I've been dying my hair red since I was 14. I went blonde for a few months 2 years ago and did a double take everytime I saw my reflection. I didn't look like me x

About 18 months ago I had my hair cut from almost waist length to just above my shoulders. It looked nice, but I instantly regretted it

I used to go from very long to virtually shaved (sides and back) every few years and it would take me over a week to recognise my reflection, was always a shock! Now I really want to cut it all off again but don't have the nerve because growing it back made me look like Don King for quite a while

Well, on a positive note my better half won't get beard rash when we kiss, which was a common grumble

I feel your pain. Except the daft hairdresser who thought they knew better in this case was also me

Don't worry OP beards grow back quite quickly, don't they?

After I got married I had my long hair cut into a pixie crop! I looked like a lesbo according to my friends I've been growing it ever since

So are you growing it back? Or is that too much of a hassle now you've had it done?

See, I completely admire you for doing it in the first place. I'm just getting a wee taste of this, and am filled with new admiration for ladies (and gents) who go through drastic changes of hairstyle.

As a Tgirl I’m quite used to looking different.

Makeup can change your face in so many ways.

I hadn't really thought about it like that but yes, I suppose it's exactly the same end result - a face that's totally different to what you were used to before.

I had a beard for quite a while and it suited me, then I joined the army and am usually clean shaven now, took some getting used to! I'm blessed with a very young looking face at 37 though so can get away with people thinking I'm mid to late 20's when shaved

We had the opposite. Mr went on holiday and came back with a beard (not had one in the 10years we have been together) I hated it but now love it and wouldn’t see him without it. (He’s baby faced). As most have said just style it out Itl grow back

Grew my hair when I was 16 and until I was well in to my 30s it had been different lengths but never shorter than shoulder length. Then I got it cut off on a whim. Halfway through the cut the hairdresser took a call, when she came back I was sat in the chair almost in tears as hated how different I looked!

Not the end of the world, it will grow back, and you never know you might like the clean look or you might like the stubble or designer stubble. New looks can be a good thing
