GPS fictitious location

Any tech heads out there that can tell me if it's possible to make your phones GPS put you in an entirely different location to where you actually are?

The reason being, we were chatting to a 'couple' last night, supposedly just lived from London to Bradford. They contacted us first asking where abouts in Bradford we are. Told them, they say they're just across the park from us. Their profile stated that they're still in London, GPS puts us both on our phones 180+ miles from each other and 230+ miles driving. Then all of a sudden whilst saying we've sussed them out as fake, their profile changes to say they're within 5 miles. In actual fact where 'they' say they are is more like less than a quarter of a mile.

They must of jail breaked they phone which is not recommended as it makes it easier for hackers to steal your info

Brighton - even Hove!

I would cut all contact and block. Find someone else. Sounds dodgy and who needs the hassle?

My phone doesn't always give an accurate reading.

I can log on to see who's near, then drive ten miles and log on again and it's still showing the same people and distances.

I then update my location and it's all good.

If they left their browser open and logged in on their phone to Fab, then travelled up it could still show as their previous location. When they click on who’s close by, the site will location ping them again at that point. So it could be perfectly all right?

Is this not due to location tracking on their phone, turned off so shows last location, then turn it on and it updates?

I'm no expert though

This happens when I’m abroad. If the first time I log on is on my computer. And the last time I logged on using my phone is at home. It shows as if I am still at home. When I log on using my phone it updates my location.

I sometimes change my gps location on my phone if i plan on going on holiday or visiting another city, find out what fabbers are close by etc! Much easier to arrange a few days in advance than when you turn up if you want a meet.

I think this is most likely

"You can spoof them yes though its a bit pointless "

And a bit extreme for swinging.

Sometimes it doesn’t update. Also me and Mr log on from different locations when he’s at work, it’s possible they stayed logged in at one location and then updated when they realised

Don’t trust the location services on fan, it often doesn’t work as well as it should.

I’ve been sat on sofa next to my sister who is on here and we’ve both logged in, it’s told us that we were 60 miles away!

Does it go off GPS or postcode? Someone said I was showing as 5 miles away from her but I wasn't.

I never have mobile location switched on. Just the postcode on my profile.

Yeah, but 230+ miles away, then all of a sudden within 5 miles. But if we look at who's near by they're not even on the list. But it's so accurate it shows if someone is within a quarter of a mile, which according to where they're saying they are is probably less than that. Not gonna lose any sleep over it though. We've sussed out fakes before and we will again.

Nothing to do with fake lol my GPS isn't turned on, just the post code so when I go to London it still reads as Cornwall until I manually change my location! Then in one second I've moved 300 miles! The who's nearby works off GPs not postcode I believe

If they don't have who's near turned on it won't be accurate. My man's location is showing as 50 miles away. I know he's currently double that
