This is a curious one for me, reading through the forums and looking at people’s comments, some people will give lengthy responses, with correct grammar, spelling etc but then you see “imo” in the middle of it? why go through the trouble of typing out full words for the rest of your comment but when it comes to “in my opinion” you just put IMO?

Just thought i’d ask to see if there was an obvious reason i was missing

I have no idea. I find it a bit irritating because I have to sit and work out all the acronyms because I'm not 14.

For the same reason you would probably not use Mister, but Mr.

Or FYI, or ASAP, some abbreviations and acronyms are more common than the words they replace.

Central

I do this a fair bit. My grammar isn't always perfect, nor my sentences that well formed. I do have a tendency to write a lot though and use of something like IMO can be a tiny compromise between very long texts with a token of brevity.

I'm also often on fab when tired, so can be eager to finish a post that became longer than I'd expected and become eager to complete it.

The context of the forum allows us to adopt our own style ! So that as long as others understand, that's largely what counts.

Adding IMO does qualify what someone is stating as their own viewpoint, rather than fact. It's probably better here that a reader understands something to just be opinion, rather than cast iron fact, for example. I prefer to be fairly accurate in what I share and don't view IMO as especially like text speak, as it's been around fairly widely outside of just mobile phone use.

I've not read other comments and I'm curious.

Haha, I'm the same. There are so many I didn't know of before I joined fab. Things like hru instead of " how are you?" . It's like another language. I would just prefer people to use the full word as I'm getting old and don't understand text speak!

its a disclaimer for the readers/contributors who read and comment with a negative bias, its an add on abbreviation basically, it shouldn't be needed but when the 'what about this, this this and this' starts it re-emphasises its just that persons opinion, which of course all comments are

I use 'haha' as a way of showing what I've said should not be taken seriously, my humour can be quite sarcastic, self deprecating and dark. I've learnt that humour doesn't cross the internet thresholds of the text world very well and as no one can get in my mind (or see my face) I want to show I am merely joking. Personally I don't see a problem with 'haha' or 'lol'. Also, I have no idea how to do a laughing emoji on here or if there even is one. The choice is very limited.
