"I really do. Smoke far too much and need to stop. I don't want to start vaping as that's just swapping one thing for another. Has anyone else stopped and how did you do it? " I got on to a scheme run by my local Pharmacy, got patches free, took my time reducing the nicotine levels but got there in end. Had to meet the pharmacist every couple of weeks for a chat and update. Worked for me. You should ask your local health centre,GP etc as I didn't realise the scheme existed

Thanks ever so much | |||

"I just stopped and for good on my third attempt. I just couldn’t justify being an educated skint mother and a smoker. Daft. " I agree, it's hideously expensive but mainly I want to do it for my health.

"A mate of mine used to smoke 60 per day. One day he announced he was giving up, and just stopped. No patches, no gradual reduction. Went from 60 to 0 overnight. That was about 10 years ago and he's never smoked since. He didn't even suffer cold turkey!"

Then you have to find things to fill your mouth or hands x

"Good luck with it OP. I was on vape. Now I’m on patches, which works well. My downfall has generally been going out and drinking, particularly beer. I have a very low dose vape for those nights. " Thanks Sapioman, that's the bit that worries me most. I don't really drink a lot but when I do go out I do like my gin and tonics and a ciggy goes hand in hand. Sounds like a vape might be a good idea after all

"Use a crutch like vaping or gum. Just stop and go through withdrawal. Change your lifestyle, don't go where you used to when you smoked. If you have a fag with coffee, stop coffee too. Reward yourself for everyday you dont light up. Put a couple of quid each day in a jar and see how much you are saving. Every time you get an urge for a smoke have a glass of water the urge will pass in the time it takes to get a glass. You need to find out what works for you. Any permutation of the above may work for you, you may need to discover your own method. Good luck Axx " You've absolutely hit the nail on the head and great advice and answers some of my dreads. My other addiction is coffee and giving that up fills me with more fear than giving up smoking. And I do like a ciggy with it especially in the mornings. And the lifestyle thing too. I go to lots of swingers clubs and chat and talk to friends, old and new, in the smoking areas. In fact, without sounding coarse, after a bit of play that's when I want a cig most. Based on your answer and others above it does sound like a vape is the best solution x

"Patches don't stick to me for some reason! Will need a way soon, said I would stop when £10 a pack, but I said the same at 3, 4, 5 etc " I also heard people say when they reached £1 per packet they would stop but they are still smoking 25 or 30 years later and paying £10 per packet.

"I really do. Smoke far too much and need to stop. I don't want to start vaping as that's just swapping one thing for another. Has anyone else stopped and how did you do it? " Then give up Just do it What's stopping you ? If you really want to quit, grab your cigarettes and throw them in the bin and stop. Only thing stopping you doing that is YOU Dont try and "wean yourself " off Not gonna happen Just stop right now, go for it. Dont even think about another cigarette Just believe you can do it and you will Thats all I done 20 years now and never looked back Just get into a mindset Probably easier now from when I quit

" My friend got the nicotine patch and from smoking half a deck or more. He smokes 3-5 now. Sometimes he says he wants to smoke because he has a habit of smoking. He's improved alot already. And feels confident that he can quit. He also tried the nicotine gum but he said that was trash.

" The difference is between needing to and wanting to....i didn't feel I needed to give up but I wanted to so just didn't buy any more cigarettes. It doesn't take long for the nicotine to leave the system so the cravings go quite quickly....probably best avoid being around smokers for a while too. Good luck.

"Nicotine is more addictive than heroin!! Cold turkey is tough." It really isn’t, that’s the excuse people tell themselves to justify not succeeding. My sister said for years she is a vile bitch without cigarettes but better vile than dead, she has incurable lung cancer and is suffering.
