Whose job is it anyway?

Ladies, do you have a man who sees it as woman's work to do the housework, cooking etc? If so is that ok with you?

Guys, do you expect a woman to take care of the house, cook and clean and meet your needs.

Or do you muck in and work together.

Whose role is it anyway?

If I had a partner, share.

So if she happy to do garden (if I had a garden) then I am happy to cook.

Housework, share.

So find what each person is good at/prefers do that, share the rest.

B helps if he's here and I'm at work, either than that it all comes down to me as I'm the only one here. That's why it's in need of work!

The kitchen is mine. Any cooking and it's down to me, as is the cleaning of the kitchen. I also clean the bathroom. I can help with ironing but very slow. Everything else we can share x

I think that in a relationship then work together.

I had seen something on TV and thought wow people can't really still think that it's womans work. After all on the whole I'd say most couples both work a job so fair is fair

I believe sharing is caring. If a job is done with more hands then it gets done quicker.

Jokes asides, there is no such thing as a man’s job or a woman’s job according to me. Almost all tasks these days can be done and performed by either sex.

50/50 down the middle. If I was single I wouldn’t live like a pig. Always keep my house clean and tidy

I enjoy cooking, so it was a pleasure to prepare a lovely meal for ex g/f's. I know how to operate a vacuum cleaner, clean the windows, change the bedding and wash clothes etc.

I don't do the dusting however. I've lived in this flat for 6 years now and still have half a can of Barry left from when I first moved in

Hahaha, I had to do them again after one of my ex g/f's had "apparently" done them, so I barred her from the kitchen permanently sometime later

My mum made sure I could do everything from ironing, cooking, light sewing, things like before I joined the Army.

I wonder if that is a "lost art" your mum teaching you to live for yourself?

When I did agency, did some work inside Uni's and if your willing to pay, they will really look after you and all you need to do is turn up for the odd class.

(Think sort your room out, wash everything, pay bills, I think the only thing they didnt do was cook)

I agree!

I've never had this issue in my relationships.

Chores have always been shared - and to be honest I'm happy to look after my partner - just as long as it's not expected.

My live in partner does most of the cooking, the dishes, the bins and the cat litter tray. I basically do the the rest. He is also very messy. He tries to chip in with the cleaning but isn't very good at it . It's the thought that counts eh.

I love to cook, and make the majority of meals in our house.

I think I probably do slightly more of the housework too but we work quite well together - I've got things I don't mind doing, and I do them. She has things she doesn't mind doing, and she does them. Between us, pretty much everything gets done

Back in the late 70's, a work colleague had an unfortunate attitude towards women, that was, women should be kept in the Kitchen and pregnant all the time!

He wondered why he couldn't attract any girl???

Then a newly arrived female colleague started going out with him; we thought it wouldn't last!!

Thirty five years on, they're still together, he's changed his attitude, simply because she said if he didn't, she do very painful things to his nuts!

Am a single dad of a 4 year old so I do the cooking cleaning and live with just us two. Kinda frowned upon in old fashion Asian culture cos the expectation is that the women stays at home cooks cleanes look after the children etc while the man only goes to work and everything is done for him. So its kinda disliked where I play the role of the dad and mum where I cook etc and work combining both

It's not as hard as it seems. He is my son and he is my responsibility so all I can do is try raise him the best I can do. What makes it tough is the asian culture is where aunties or uncles tell me to get married for the sake of having a women at home who will act as a maid. So I kinda stopped going to these social gatherings so i can avoid those weird looks and whispers

Hell no! All effort in a relationship, especially when you are at the point of discussing housework, should be 50/50. It's difficult to put a clear line sometimes if only one fo the partner os working especially, but, breaking tha monotony of the person you love and are with... just bloody do it! That's me at least!

When I will have partner, I will share everything 50-50, even expenses if she is working no free lunches.
