'Should Donald Trump, the most powerful man in the world, be banned from Twitter?

Kamala Harris thinks so. On Tuesday she sent a letter to Twitter’s CEO arguing that Trump has been violating the platform’s user agreement. Harris pointed to recent tweets Trump had sent harassing the Ukraine whistleblower and the House intelligence committee chairman, Adam Schiff, as well as Trump’s infamous tweet threatening civil war.

These, Harris said, constitute “blatant threats that put people at risk and our democracy in danger. No user, regardless of their job, wealth, or stature should be exempt from abiding by Twitter’s user agreement, not even the President of the United States,” Harris concluded.'

I'm no Trump fan but banning people is a slippery slope. If they can ban the US president they can ban anyone. Driving unpopular speech underground doesn't stop that speech from existing. In fact it grows in the darkness. Id rather there be free speech where we can take down hateful and ignorant people with arguments and discussions.

If he's banned I guarantee you he will just be even more popular and probably win the next election.

I guess Twitter is a good medium for voicing concerns or opinions. if someone oversteps the guidelines and breaches the rules, then of course they should be pulled up. Whether or not it would result in a ban is another story.

If Trump wasn't on there, look at the fun people wouldn't have anymore, no more juicy stories/soundbites or chat/news content for the day.

If the implication of the article is that he's breaching the terms of service, then "he should be able to use it like anyone else" = if he doesn't follow the rules he gets banned. At the moment I feel he gets special treatment.

I think heads of state blurring posts in personal and professional capacity is irresponsible and/or dangerous. (other than fluff like happy birthday/ merry Christmas etc)

Society, historical precedence and a variety of other factors decree what is acceptable in terms of any kind of -ism and that is an ever evolving thing - what was acceptable in the 50s may not be acceptable now for example.

I'm guessing that they'll do little in this case, as it created daily publicity for them worldwide, for free. They're probably more likely to change their terms than boot him out.

I work with a lot of Americans, and have been there pre and post trump taking power.

He is held in high regard by a lot of them, he has brought a sense or renewed the sense of patriotism that has been missing before him.

We live in changing times through the internet, him using that same internet is actually ground breaking tbh, or maybe ahead of his time?

I agree on your point. I think he is harshly treated by the media who never praise his achievments. An example is his use of the term 'lynch mob' describing the impeachment proceedings against him. Outraged from the press yet Bill Clinton used pretty much the same words.

As for vetting immigrants, the same people who criticise him will be the first to blame the security services if something goes wrong. I just wish one of our politicians would have his balls. Dennis Skinner is one of the few I admire for saying his piece. Every other MP plays the let's offend as few people as possible to get elected game.

Disagreeing with your views is not necessarily hate speech. To say that all conservatives should be locked up could be construed as just that to some people. I have a novel idea. Listen to the conservatives and debate with them and win by logical arguement ..
