So I'm trying to but a hamper together for my sister and her partner and 2 teenagers.

I want it to be food, household and toiletries. I'm looking for ideas and my budget is £40.

Do it from Lidl or Aldi!

We were given one when we moved out and it had loads. Pastas, sauces, rice, toiletries etc.

Loads of strangely shaped pasta, bulgar, couscous, jasmine rice and perhaps a recipe book? There’s that blogger who has amazing recipes that are so cheap to make it’s unbelievable. I’ll look her up and pm you.

Oh thank you. I'm thinking of doing two. They need a laundry basket so I was thinking of filling one with toiletres and cleaning stuff and one for food. That's a great idea as I want to put basics in it but don't want it to be boring.

I normally do this or give them vouchers but I wanted something more personal but stuff they need and will use.

Have a look at Home Bargain/Wilkos for nice soap - they sell Dove there for not too bad a price at all. You can always buy a nice bubble bath as well. A nice candle but don't pack that with the rest of the hamper.

In terms of perishables, a nice bottle of cordial/non alcoholic drink - Bottlegreen and Belvoir fruit are often on sale and they are both delicious. Aldi do some really delicious white chocolate and cranberry cookies around this time of year as well. Nice, unusual pasta shapes. Maybe have a look at the stollen in Lidl? You can also get a couple of packs of nice dried bread mix - it's a fun activity to do and homemade bread smells wonderful. Dried mushrooms really add depth of flavour to dishes and you can get beautiful packs of those. Oh and nice risotto rice! You can pick it up quite cheaply and you only need a few extra bits to make a delicious meal. Nice stock cubes or a pouch of ready made stock would work as well.

I fricking love hampers.

I absolutely love this idea. I think it’s a great present. I do a big one for my daughter and her other half every year as an extra pressie. I just pick something extra up every time I go shopping and pop it in. They really appreciate it, especially just after Xmas x

My local Lidl donates a lot of food close to use by date to local food banks. It could be worth asking them in your area

I admit i didnt read all suggestions.. but you can find on Pinterest ideas how to make a cookie mix jar. Put it together in a nice mason jar, twine and whatever your imagination adds..

At the bottom of the jar leave a nice note;-)

Then they can bake it together? Icing set to go with perhaps.

They also have nice hand wash, hand cream, face wipes etc some of which is under £1.

My mum does this for us every Christmas, it's a tradition.

It's full of chocolate, sweets, cakes, tins, smellies. And an individual gift for me and D, like a purse or wallet, gloves, a scarf.

We love getting them, and she absolutely loves doing them for us.

It's a lovely idea Lorna, she will be delighted with it.

My mom packs me 5 trillion toiletries lol so it's only food I buy and I get lots of packs of noodles and ready meals and snacks.its amazing how much stuff you can buy for £40 and it's nice stuff too

Don't forget things like tea and coffee and hot chocolate they tend to take a chunk of people's cash when they are struggling. Have a look at the special weeks at Aldi

Surely Christmas is for treats not jars of coffee and boxes of cereal.

Themed hamper like dvds, popcorn, sweet things, for a home movie night might be nice.
