According to the many studies, the lifetime environmental impact of a PEV is roughly half that of an equivalent petrol car.

What about the environmental impact of mining lithium?

And the transportation of said lithium?

Which uses more resources.

A car thats 15 years old, or one that has to be built using all new materials?

And depends on the car.

Most are rent as the cost of replacing is very high.

I would go with rent the battery, own the car.

That excludes the disposal of end of life batteries though which decimated the environmentally friendly claim of electric cars.

Not really a fair comparison, if nobody bought new cars there won't be any used ones to buy either.

Also, most of all cars are recyclable whether they're running on fossil fuels or electricity.

You should just be able to swap battery's in a garage

Slide one in and get one out

Not rocket science

Personally, I'd love to see manufacturers working on a universal battery. These could then be easily swapped at the motorway services rather than recharging.

Will these electric cars last 20 years easily, as cars do currently?

But you don't know how someone has treated that battery with charging discipline etc, it would be like changing an engine that's been well maintained with one that could have been ragged

It is fair.

Which is more harmful?

You can't just ignore the fact that you have to recharge the battery, and guess what, that too use's resource's.

Just look at a wind farm.

Has to be new stainless steel (for the bearings etc) new fibreglass (can't use recycled fibreglass). So that's more damage that an old petrol car.

Just goes on.

But as said. Rent.

More research should be done on hydrogen fuel cells

No change required for your driving and refuelling habits, it's a common element and the emission is water vapour

What the prices of these now, I have heard anywhere between £8000 to £15000. Depending on the car it is for.
