I do not know of any local Chinese take away shops that take cards...cash only. I was hungry, had no cash and ultimately no Chinese! I wondered why?

So that can keep some.for themselves and some for the tax man. Any business that's cash only will be skimming .. I'm not jumping to conclusions it's a fact.

Hillside desolate

The only one I know of is a sit in restaurant as well as a takeaway. And it's been shut down a few times for illegal immigrants, prostitution and dodgy gambling, so maybe not the best example.

There is a mix around me. Some take cash only, but many take card payments too, all type of take outs not just Chinese. Never had a receipt though, but never wanted one either.

Cornwall

The local ones here take cards, but as someone else has said, if paying with cash, the till is out of sight & you never get a receipt.

I was having the exact same conversation with someone yesterday.

The money laundering is a good point. Have you ever been in the Genting Casino on Hurst Street? It’s full of Chinese gambling large sums. A business contact told me that many takeaway owners will gamble the shop’s takings in the casino after hours because shop takings are taxable - if they declare them - but casino winnings are tax free.

I only use Just Eat/Uber Eats as I never have cash. Had a family weekend away at a cottage where my dad lives in the sticks, none of us took any cash and the only ATM for miles was broke when we got there. None of the handful of shops or hotels would do cashback as everyone needed it and they were running out. We were like poor souls with our noses pressed against the takeaway window! I couldn't cope if I couldn't order absolutely everything online, it was so weird!

I was on holiday around Glasgow in September, there are a lot of very isolated, rural houses. I was wondering if they even got supermarket deliveries, as the distance surely wouldn't make it viable for businesses?

London

Also card machines take a small fee for every transaction and the whole system isn't cheap its usually rented out so its a big expense they're avoiding especially for a small takeaway where the card machine might not even pay for itself.

Also yeah to avoid a whole lot of tax but if they dont have their books sorted on a random inspection they gn get done dirty

Firstly, it’s tax reasons like many have pointed out. Point me in the direction of a self-employed or cash business that is legit with their tax submissions.

Plus - 3% charge on each transaction + a min transaction value or face a min fee.

My dad is only about an hour's drive from Glasgow, it's absolutely gorgeous but like going back in time! They do get Asda deliveries but not Prime Now/Just Eat etc.
