No, we have too many destructive and wasteful meatsacks on the planet as it is - it would neither be fair to the clones, nor those already here.

So many children without parents in the world, no to cloning, no to artificial insemination, no to surrogacy.

No. I’m sure it will happen long before we consider the legal and ethical implications though.

They would probably clone soldiers first knowing the Human race. Every new development gets exploited by the military first. Sad but true

The Internet was created in-house at DARPA,yes. But the World Wide Web was made possible by Tim Berners-Lee and given to the world for free.

yes it should. It will undoubtedly happen at some point or genetic modification at least and I would rather it was regulated than not.

mind you legalising it doesn't mean that unregulated cloning wont take place.

Cloning might be used for all sorts of reasons. A much loved partner or child dies in an accident...clone them, hundreds of soldiers, factory workers, servants required...clone them.

The above examples are reasons I'd like to see it legalised so that legislation could be put in place to regulate it but I wouldn't want to be on the committee discussing the ethics

I'll pass thanks. All those Epsilons servants slaves soldiers.

Clone a lost child. How could it ever replace the one who had been lost.

Also what's the point in cloning a loved one if it then takes 30 years for the clone to become that person physically by which time you're dead or ancient. And the clone will have different memories and have grown up in a different environment, so despite looking the same it will be an entirely different person....

"Should human cloning be legalised? "

I watched Orphan Black from beginning to end and much as I like the idea of hot clones, I'd be against it.

I also read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It would put you off cloning forever

I don't think it works like that. Cloning a person does not mean the clone will follow the same life or career path of the donor. Blade Runner didn't work out well!..

I don't understand what the purpose would be, say you wanted to bring Elvis back and cloned him... He's not going to be Elvis because it's life experience that shapes who you not mere biology. He might hate singing and peanut butter.

I can imagine it being used for organ harvesting but again, why? We can already grow individual organs, why grow an entire person for that and why do they need to be a clone?

It's not only about cloning whole people / animals.

We can clone useful body parts like replacement lungs, hearts and joints. The new bits will be recognised as "self" by our immune systems. We would not have to take immunosuppressive drugs to prevent rejection + antibiotic and antiviral drugs to prevent infections.

So the parts are better than thge whole.

No. What would be the point? There's no logical reason to clone people, not yet anyway, not unless we get to the technological level of the "Stack and Sleeve" system from Altered Carbon.

The truth is I have no idea how cloning would work in practice.

I have no doubt it will happen legally or not.

Stephen Hawkings theorised that it might be possible to genetically engineered DNA based life to survive indefinitely or at least 100,000 years. Now that's scary.
