"It depends what you class as good. The South Bank has a lot going for it. Covent Garden is fun to explore. What sort of thing are you hoping to find? Good bar, clubs and places worth going too" It really depends on your interest. It’s a city of 8+ million people, and over 40 miles across - so it’s hard to narrow down on those criteria!

"We are 4 straight guys and like rock/metal scene as well as nightclubs Couple of us will be out to meet women lol God help use lol" Rock/metal wise, Camden Town is probably best area. The Dublin Castle is a great boozer with live bands and the Elephants Head is a unique little dive bar. Otherwise the other options are Crobar (in the West End), Slim Jim's Liqor Store (Upper Street in Islington). Kentish Town may be worth a look too.

"We are 4 straight guys and like rock/metal scene as well as nightclubs Couple of us will be out to meet women lol God help use lol" Camden Town will be right up your street. My favourite part of London and my place of birth so obviously fucking awesome! Underworld right near the tube should work, or the Dublin Castle. Also check what's on at the Electric Ballroom, they have decent rock/metal nights but also cheesy pop nights, don't get them mixed up

"OP, look up Londonist on the interweb. It will help you see what's on when you're here. London is full of lots of free things to do and lots of very expensive things to do. A little bit of planning will save you criss-crossing the city. Sometimes it is quicker to walk than take the tube (e.g. Covent Garden to Leicester Square is quicker, and nicer, above ground) and if you are crossing areas then get the bus. It's cheap and you can see the sights of London. " look up getting a oyster card but you can only use it in certain areas of london I think anyway..

"Split your money, pickpockets are rife. I keep a 20 in my back pocket to offer would be muggers. A quick 20 may fend them off taking more. If you keep your wits about you then hopefully all will be ok. Avoid crowded places and do not drink too much. Always plan your escape route and never rely on the last bus or train in case it gets cancelled. That advice was given to me by a Londoner and has served me well " Oh for goodness sake!!

"We are 4 straight guys and like rock/metal scene as well as nightclubs Couple of us will be out to meet women lol God help use lol" If you like metal bars Garlic and Shots in Soho is pretty good, it's run by Swedish metal heads, it's oddly clean cut for a metal place but I guess that's the scandi influence. Then I remember the Crobar being fun later at night. Otherwise my preferred area for pub and bar crawls tends to be Hoxton/Shoreditch/Brick Lane/Dalston. Nightclubs in London are hit and miss depending on who's playing/promoting. Unfortunately the nightclub scene is more heavily legislated than it used to be so you don't get the same freedom feeling as back in the 90s but if you're into larger events then Steelworks is a very impressive venue especially for Techno and similar styles...

You have 24 hour tube at the weekends, tons of night buses and uber! It's just a capital city, not a war zone!" I lived there nearly fifteen years in all of the traditionally fairly rough areas - Clapton, Brixton, Harlesden, Mile End, Tottenham, Turnpike Lane, that really shitty part between Stamford Hill and Stoke Newington etc. I have had phones stolen once or twice and might have got mugged once, had I not talked myself out of it. However a good friend of mine was there at the same time as me, lived in nicer areas, managed to get mugged five times in three years round Notting Hill and Clapham. I think some people carry themselves in a way that invites attention from acquisitive types, and some don't. I'm quite good with accents so I think I blend in more, whereas my friend has a very obvious New Zealand twang so he gets seen as an 'outsider' whereas I just sound 'local'.
