Camberley occasionally doncaster

My diet the other day. I had a small bag of chips from a local chippy.

But that isn't the problem.

As a northerner, living down south I believe it is a constitutional right to be able to have gravy with any and every meal. If I so choose. The person serving me informed me that this particular establishment DID NOT SELL GRAVY!

It took me a little while to compose myself, but I was genuinely shaken. How can this be? Is this common down south. How can they miss out one of the great food groups?

This is not a happy boy. Please tell me this is not a widespread theme in the south..

It is unfortunately.....on my travels down South for football and sight seeing etc...I have often found that asking for Chips & Gravy in a chippy gets you some funny looks.....like your an alien from a distant planet....it's strange really!! Haha

It is I’m afraid. You’ll get used to it. No curry sauce on chips either. They do do mushy peas though and you can get vimto now! Still haven’t come across dandelion and burdock though. And don’t ask for a chip barm in a chippy they won’t have a clue

As someone who is neither a Northerner or Southerner my unbiased view is that I've has far better grub from Northern culinary establishments than Southern .

You just didn't know where to go, there was a chippy up the road that did pukka pies. Just needed to walk in the other direction

Haha yes the problem is real

As a northerner by blood (and still in heart) chips & gravy, chop buttie, scraps are in my dna

It is fair that you find it, but I’m lucky where I live you can get it all (except scraps )

My regular pub even put chips and gravy on the menu for me and with rich onion gravy too all the southerners moan when it appears but managed to convert a few

Back in gods county. Balance has been restored. Chips and thick proper northern gravy for lunch while out and about

We've caught on to curry sauce. I'm sure gravy will follow soon enough.

Chips and gravy is a treat when I go up north. Makes up for the cold.
