Dying on the job

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

A few weeks ago there was a news story about a married man who died after having sex with a one night stand on a work trip.

French employment law ruled that it was a workplace accident, entitling his family to full compensation and benefits.

Several things about this story struck me:

1. How awful for a family to get that news

2. How awful for the one night stand

3. French employment law always surprises me

4. How can you protect staff from this sort of workplace accident?

5. He was their health and safety officer ( - cruel, I know, but that did make me laugh)

Sex at work is dangerous. Sex when working away is deadly.

"Haha saw that ! Fair doz to the court ! "

I had to grapple with French employment law a couple of years ago. I don't speak French and I really don't understand why the client wanted me for the job but... It's bonkers!

Every suggestion I made was met with a reason it couldn't happen because of the employment laws. However, great if you're an employee.

they probably just wanted to check if you'd go on strike if they were refusing your suggestions

Would love to see the risk assessment and resultant policies that fall out of this incident

Once they've recruited a new H&S Officer.

Coventry

1. Agreed

2. Agreed

3. I'm not surprised. In my job you are covered from the moment you leave your house for work to the moment you arrive home in terms of death in service benifits. I think that's completely fair.

4. I think it's any employers duty of care to minimise risk. I think a prudent measure would be to have another person to assist as a mandatory measure. Not only to keep an eye out but also to assist and reduce the stress and workload.

5. Irony is what makes the world go round. Life would be rubbish without it.

And let's face it every cloud has a silver lining. I suspect the pay out was rather decent.
