How incredibly gifted and intelligent was Freddie Mercury?

Can we rewind 40 years to when music was music? And not the shit that’s around today

on the road to nowhere in particular

Freddie was a great performer and front man but his solo work was pretty crap when he didn’t have the other three collaborating with him.

It must be true it was in the film

His duet with Bella Emberg for the Olympics was quite good

Southport / Ellesmere Port

Bohemian Rhapsody was quite groundbreaking in its day but that was a band effort. The rest of Queens music was pretty standard rock stuff, nothing particularly special. True he was a great frontman but definitely not a genius.

I bet there were people saying the same thing when Freddie was around, looking back on the music before them.

Queen are the only band where every member wrote at least 2 number 1 hits

There's plenty of good music around at the moment. It must be shit to be middle aged and crave for the past when music was music and realise you've turned in to your parents

Like I say it must be really hard to not be able to find new music and only listen to stuff aimed at am entirely different demographic.

There are great bands our there, maybe stop listening to radio 1 and watching Glastonbury and Reading footage in search of it though

I think genius is overstating it. He was a great performer and wrote some good songs. It takes more than that to qualify.

It reminds me of the American political commentator who argued that the word was overused, saying "A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein".

Man that's harsh! Funny, but harsh.
