Sabbath were the first to coin the term Heavy Metal. They wanted their music to sound like the crashing and banging herd constantly from the iron foundries and huge presses that dominated the Aston area where they came from. I've welded in those foundries in that area of Birmingham and totally get it...! Lol

They show you don't have to play a 1000 miles an hour to still sound heavy n hard...

The 2 dio albums you refer to must be heaven and hell and mob rules?

When you think about it sabbath had to completely change they musical sound to cater for dio because with ozzy it was slow but with dio it was fast 80s metal....sign of a talented band when they've got to adapt.

Sutton

Led Zeppelin first, Robert Plant's voice can range from Angelic to bluesy, to heavy shouter. Page's range of guitar styles. Bonhoms skill behind the drums that make the drums a solo instrument, John Paul Jones talking bass, almost jazzy, definitely bluesy, but always sublime.

Deep Purple second, but which Deep Purple? The classic lineout of Ian Gillan on the vocals singing to the guitar on "Live in Japan". Paice's rocky funky drumming and Glover's behemoth bass. Lord bringing the badass to the Keyboards. Not in any way forgetting Ritchie's guitar, the forbear of epic guitar solos.

Black Sabbath err noisy! I have respect for them but I never got on with Ozzy's voice. As for Tony Iommi, anyone who takes their lead from Django gets my respect. But one player does not make a team.

My actual favourite band is Thin Lizzy, Thunder and Lightning is a great rock track

Absolutely love Thin Lizzy. I think The Rocker is one of the best rock songs ever written. Love thunder and lightning too

Seen them at the BMF rally a few years ago, you're right great group and truly one of the best tribute acts
