There is normally a sticker on the inside of on of the front doors or frame advising of the suitable pressures for your wheels.

The little digital ones from Halfords used to be good.

Calibrate it by giving the tyre a kick and saying “yeah, about right”

I wouldn't have thought that was strictly true. Tyre pressure constantly fluctuates with environmental conditions and the kind of driving you're doing.

I put 30psi all round in mine regardless and that seems just fine.

Garage gauges can be miles off. It’s important that it’s accurate when the tyres are cold because when they get hot through use they’ still safe.

I think it’s an MoT fail if they’re more than about 3psi out, in case a traffic policeman wants to get narky with you

More like the tyre will wear unevenly at the wrong pressure. I've never had any problems.

Ok ok..

So go on Amazon and look for either for a sealey or A Laser brand.

If it's to set tire pressures with a sensor built into a tyre the supermarket ones tend to be about 2-3 psi out

The Racex RX2931 Tyre Pressure and Tread Depth Gauge is well made and accurate according to AutoExpress.

Under inflated tyres increase tyre wear, affect performance when cornering and in braking, and reduce fuel economy. So, a real safety issue and the premature wear could also result in a £2500 fine if you get stopped and have below minimum tyre tread depth.

Overinflated tyres are dangerous and driving on them can result in a blow out as the pressure will increase as the tyre temperature increases (friction and Boyle's Law).

An overinflated tyre can also kill you if you happen to be next to it when it ruptures.

Tyre pressure increases when the tyre gets up to temperature or the outside temperature rises so it’s safer to adjust tyre pressure when the tyres are warmed up a bit or as close to operating temperature as you can get, definitely not cold!

I have one made by Ring ( I can hear the jokes already.) It’s good quality and the valve fitting is screw on ( it gets worse lol) so much better than the cheap plastic push on ones.

I use the gauge on my mountain bike track pump - pretty accurate and it pumps, so... two birds with one. Use it for my mountain bike, car, Fireblade and... airbed

I picked up a draper digital one, its more accurate than the older type. Don't trust supermarket or garage Airlines to be spot on they get dropped and thrown about by careless users.
