Why do people add these to the end of the first part of their stories? Are they so in need of self- affirmation?

Just have courage that what you’re writing is interesting. Besides, there are enough people out there that it will appeal to someone even if it involves marmite and a Spiderman costume.

Just seems slightly superfluous. I’ve never seen a story where someone’s replied ‘No thanks’ to shall I continue. And it comes across as needy and insecure.
