The summer of cricket has passed, but what a summer. England became world champions and, to my mind, we witnessed the greatest Ashes series since 2005. Months of fun.

No more Test Match Special on in the kitchen and office. No more Aggers ripping the piss out of Boycott, no more Jim Maxwell's strange fascination with the shipping forecast. I have that feeling you get when you return from a brilliant extended holiday and it's Monday back at work. Mildly glum.

Surely Ben Stokes is nailed on for BBC SPotY?

Commiserations to New Zealand they were a revelation this summer. Well done Steve Smith for turning English derision into respect.

Care to add your highlights?

Second your thoughts on Steve Smith. He's done his penance, and should be allowed to continue his career abuse free. His batting has been infuriatingly brilliant. Averaging nigh on 100 .

Joffra Archer making the transition to red ball look seemless. Fast, hostile, accurate. Just what we'll need in 2 years time down under.

Ben Stokes, total superstar.

I'd like to see a tweak or two in the lineup. Rory and Joe Denly have earned another series at opening, Joe Root at 3, new number 4, Jonny Bairstownto relinquish the gloves in favour of specialising as a batter. Jos Buttler to keep wicket.

This one may be controversial, but unless James Anderson says he'll commit to playing in the next ashes, I'd consider retiring him. Giving opportunities to the talent rising through now, rather than throwing them in at the deep end of Jimmy were to be injured again.

"Oh and sad to see that Gower and Beef have left sky sports"

I won't pay Murdoch a penny so it's TMS all the way for me.

Other than the World Cup final all the bars have had the commentary turned off so I haven't heard Atherton and Co for years and years.

Have they retired? Wonder if we'll hear them on TMS now....

Even at the drawn series? Not a win granted but enough to stave off misery no?

"Controversial re Jimmy! "

I know.

Yet have to wonder if he's got the legs in him to bowl in another series which isn't until 2021.

Does he see himself an integral part of that squad? Especially when you consider his relative lack of success in Oz.

Fair enough.

Can't help thinking if Jimmy had been fit this would have been a different series. Also they had a result Archer putting Smith in hospital cause Labuschagne was a revelation for them.

I wondered this. But Aggers (BBC article online) seems to think Anderson Archer Broad will be the pace attack down under and I fancy seeing that.

I'd love to see it, with Joffra and Sam Curran as first changes.

Take all 4 of them and Leach. Joffra will go up the batting order in time as well....

Also. Champions!
