As you may know I quit smoking around 18 months ago now and I've vamped ever since on a low 6MG tobacco liquid . All this shite about vape related deaths lately has got me thinking , is it dangerous or is it scaremongering by tobacco companies. Your thoughts please!!

I think there should have been more tests done before vaping was made legal , but heyhoe. My lungs feel better for sure , but my other health issues seem to have only been in the last year , weird

I think there are real concerns in the ingredients on some Vape liquids, look up popcorn lung from the states for more on that.

But.....

Vaping should still be a hell of a lot better than cigarettes especially if being used as a means to quit nicotine.

I think the problems will come from the long term vapers, those that choose it as a life style rather than quitters.

I can tell you it’s not scare mongering by tobacco companies. It comes from other sources.

Nothing is 100% safe and if you asked a tobacco company or your doctor, they will tell you the effects are not wholly known, but it is less harmful for you than tobacco

You are better buying a tobacco company’s vaping product as they work to regulations, that they are trying to get through legislation. The shops that just pop up you have no idea what is on that mixture or where it has been made or indeed how safe the device is

At the end of the day you are an adult and the choice is yours.

Seems strange that all the deaths have been in the us. If it was vaping it would be a world wide issue.

It's more to do with black market THC cartridges that haven't been made properly.

Vaping causes the mucus in your lungs to degrade which opens people up to infection, hence the pneumonia deaths recently. I still smoke, with my thinking being better the devil you know.

The USA has 10’s of 1000’s of gun related deaths each year, but they won’t ban guns.

The USA has 7 (possible) deaths related to vaping, and all of a sudden trump starts spouting there will be a ban.

Could this possibly be something to do with NRA and tobacco companies lining trumps pockets? My guess is he stands to make more money for himself if millions of people resort back to smoking tobacco.

More likely is that the right to bare arms is written into their rather codified constitution, which makes it rather difficult to amend.

Think again re tobacco companies lining anyone’s pockets. You’ll find that all tobacco companies are shifting their focus away from traditional tobacco products and moving into vaping and other non tobacco alternatives

These so called vape deaths are related to people who vape the cannabis oils, mainly the illegal oils that people make themselves and sell online. Some of them are 10-20 times stronger than the legal ones

Ive tried them, But im also banned from them been advised better to smoke than vape.

As a non smoker, I absolutely hate the huge plume of sickly sweet smelling clouds that surrounds the locality of vapers.

And the fact that people think they are more socially acceptable to do it in places where cigarettes are not allowed.

But then I could just be a grumpy old git.

It gave me pleurisy but I do have an auto immune condition which makes me more succeptable to these kinds of things.

You missed my logic then. If he threatens to ban them, maybe the big tobacco companies who, you inform me, are moving into vaping products, will do their upmost to change trumps decision.

Anyway, this is political, and that’s another thread. I’m just pointing out that trump banning e cigs has nothing to do with 7 supposed deaths, it’s clearly a whitewash for something far deeper, he’s just seen it as an excuse.

I think the real issue here is if the governments around the world can make a case these vapes are dangerous then they can tax Vape liquid to help fund the NHS, and other national health schemes. As usual, it’s all about the money. Big Tobacco are in on the vaping manufacture so they don’t care, the only losers from vaping is the tax man. If you consider that about 60/70% of the price of a box of cigarettes goes to the exchequer and nothing goes from vape liquid that’s the answer. Is not vaping better for you, yes. Is vaping way better for you than smoking, I believe it is and I’ve been doing it for 3/4 years with no health issues.

That’s my opinion anyway.

His decisions will ultimately effect you. What happens in USA will have a knock on effect to us, so it’s something we should concern ourselves with. Obviously banning e cigs would not effect us, I’m talking financial, and conflicts with other countries etc.

Don’t forget our financial down turn 11 years ago and subsequent housing crash where a direct result of USA subprime mortgages.

Obviously there is not enough data to know how safe it is, but it is definitely safer than smoking.

All vape products in the uk have to follow very strict regulations, for both the vapes and the liquids!

These regulations aren’t in place in the US and there are a lot of unsafe or black market products and liquids around as a result.

Our liquids fall under strict rules as we are in Europe. I think that level of safety will still remain regardless of brexit.

The deaths in the US are being linked to vaping because it’s the only thing the people have in common. The likelihood is that vaping has contributed to the deaths because of the use of illegal black market liquids. This is much the same and just as dangerous as buying black market alcohol. But when buying legitimate products the risks are far lower.

Someone mentioned popcorn lung, which is a real condition (named because it developed in workers of popcorn factories breathing in fumes). Basically a flavouring in popcorn called diacetyl causes the condition. I believe diacetyl is still used by some (few) ecig manufactures in the US but has been banned in Europe for several years. And in fact Europe has the strictest laws in the world surrounding vaping.

People will say things such as ‘you don’t know what’s in that liquid’ well yes actually I do because it says it on the bottle. It’s a multimillion pound business. No reputable company will risk their licence by adding harmful ingredients.

Is it good for you? No of course not. You’re breathing in a foreign substance several times an hour. It’s not making you more healthy. But compared to the alternative (cigarettes) which contain Tar, carbon dioxide, arsenic, ammonia to name a few then I’d choose vaping every time.

The big tobacco companies dominate the vape juice business,so I doubt they're crying foul. Unlikely to be case inhaling chemicals of any kind is without risk. Hey, less risk of cancer, more risk of hideous and rapid lung collapse.yay!
