I hope this isn’t inappropriate & doesn’t offend but I’m getting really fed up of breakthrough bleeding , when I hit 50 Drs insisted on changing my contraception to cerazette I am now bleeding on & off constantly , although not heavy it’s a huge inconvenience & I’ve had to cancel a few play dates dr says come off pill use condoms or copper coil, neither of which appeal ! Thing is last night I had a good meet which resulted in a long sesh today I’m bleeding so dunno if that’s a result of last night or just ‘tom’ , I’ve had thorough tests at Drs blood tests etc so bleeding not caused by infection , also had an internal examination just dunno what to do really getting me down

Firstly if condoms don't appeal and you are having meets then have you rulled out the chance of having a sti? As bleeding can take place for a woman who has Chlamydia or pelvic inflamitry disease. If you haven't had a recent screen I suggest you do so first of all. Secondly there are around 5 different types of pop/mini pill I suggest you ask for a different type of it is indeed that which is making you bleed. You could do with some specialist advice so it may be worth you booking in with a consultant at your local gu med family planning clinic

Sorry just read properly that you have been screened. I do suggest going to a proper gu family planning clinic though as they offer more options than the gp

Is your doctor a man?

There will be other pill brands- they should let you try another. Same hormones but different brands can make a difference. You don't have to put up with it.

Ive heard the same complaint from other ladies about the mini pill. I was told just give it time, 10 months later, same crap. I was offered a change in pill but warned it takes 6 months to settle down and possible new side effects. So its catch 22 stick with what you know n hope it calms down or swap n go through x more months of issues.

Hey thanks for taking the time to post, I think at my age there is only this pill that can be offered, I know it sounds like I’m contradicting myself as I 99% of the time practice safe sex but don’t want to come totally off the pill and use condoms, I looked into the coil and it looked far to evasive and the side effects look worse than what I get now , the joys of being a woman eh just the menopause to look forward to now ffs x

Obviously it's different for everyone but if it's any help I got a copper coil a few months back and it's been ok actually. Didn't hurt as much as I'd been warned of, was a bit ill and had some crampy pain for a couple of days after. I bled for literally about 6 weeks solid which was hellish, but then it settled and now my period is very heavy but contained to the one week rather than me being caught off guard all throughout the month, which was driving me crazy.

I have the Mirena coil. I can't say about the copper coil, but to the extent that it's similar... Having it put in was like a slightly more painful pap smear, then I just check on it every so often.

Unfortunately age, weight, and health issues may limit options for contraception. Just the way it goes!
