Why do they argue about everything? Why did I let myself get drawn into a 20 minute heated debate about why the dishwasher didn’t get emptied last night and had to endure a barrage of excuses as to why it’s ok to leave dirty dishes on the side. They put more energy, time and passion into trying to get out of doing their chores. To top it off I then get mugged for £40 because they’re going out and I get the privilege of being a taxi service for them!

Just like a puppy, if they get a treat after shitting on the rug in the middle of the room, you can guarantee it will keep on shitting forever more.

The problem being is that they do the job eventually after exhausting you with a pointless argument and winding you up with relentless excuses and they knew they’d get the money today because it’s to travel to a university open day.

I may be lucky but my teenager is a dream however he knows how far he can push me and knows that if he wants stuff he has to work for it

The minute they started arguing about their chores is the minute I say "fine don't do it. Go away but you won't get paid. Either do it willingly or not at all". My kids know I won't get drawn into their squabbles and their are consequences to their actions.

I didn’t argue with my kids, I told them how things were done, explained things like actions and consequences, I wouldn't interact with my kids if they were shouting or being disrespectful towards me.

There's two sides to a coin.Its nice when you spend 6 hours in your room studying and your dad keeps shouting get out of bed.So you say go away I'm not in bed im catching up with my tasa work.Then a hour later he shouts are you going to get out of bed.You can't concentrate so you section your uni work and place it into piles that relate to each other.Then you go out so you can study when they are in bed and not disturbing you.Then you get home and your mom has gone in your room and everything you have sectioned has been placed in one big pile all mixed up.Then when you get angry and ask why she has done that they say I'm always causing arguments for nothing.RAHHHHHHHHHHHH I FEEL LIKE EXPLODING AT TIMES.

Is it wrong to feel smug that ours is off to Uni in 7 days. We'll miss him like crazy but omfg. Our house is ours again

Experienced similar, op. Best thing we did was to take the pocket money completely away and for them to get a part time job. Soon learnt the value of money and effort for reward. Knock on effect too as they know knuckling down at Uni is very much worthwhile.
