Manchester (he/him)

After reading another thread I've been musing (yes I'm doing it again) about the forum 'community', it's dynamics and how people fit into it.

In order for a community to function, certain roles must be fulfilled and people consciously and unconsciously fit into those roles in order to facilitate the community good.

So which roles do you think that you fulfil?

An honest appraisal if you will folks, none of the morose and flagellatory 'no one notices me' that some folks respond with...

I just don’t see it as a community with roles to be filled. People are what they are, interacting as they do which is a reflection of themselves. I think some people would like to believe there is a sort of ranking/hierarchy but I don’t agree. It is your experience and you will make of it what you will

I just kind of plod along. I try to be a cheerleader where I can, but I also don't try to sugarcoat people's shit. I get support both public and private for things I say.

The commentators used to describe roles within the Big Brother community. There was the Maternal figure and the so called baby of the group. Some people gravitate to these roles but I wonder if you can overthink these things. Interesting though. But does it work for everyone and is it really an illusion. Is it a collection on individuals or a community ?

There is that too but I disagree that there aren't roles being filled even unwittingly and multiple people can fill the same role at the same time.

I'm not saying that there is a hierarchy nor a pecking order but I also don't think that it's the random brownian motion of people that you describe. There is order even in chaos.

That's a rough guide to my thought process although I'd say that the roles are far more complex and can be fluid according to who else is posting, how they're feeling and other variables.

i don't think i fit i amuse many but not in a way that gets audible applause and i probably have a reverse affect on many once again without audible applause, i think there are definitely cliques of people who stick together here as their are on lots of internet groups and apps but no-one knows anyone until they meet and not just once either, people form opinions and judgements but as long as one knows this it can't have an adverse affect on ones stance dont you think?

That's a good question. If I was answer for both of us (though P may have a few points to add as is her modus operandi ) I'd say that we both flit between roles?

I tend to be an often light-hearted loosely guiding presence and philosopher whilst P tends to be a moral compass?

Whereas we BOTH tend to also be the naughty bunch at the back of the bus from time to time (which is often!)....

Me? Jesus where do I start.

I guess I'm a little like the mad aunt who is insecure at times yet still outgoing. The crazy bitch who looks out for other people coz she knows how it feels to be alone and lost.

I try to promote wellness and belief in oneself even though I don't always lead by example in that respect. I do however like to think I give hope to others who've been through the mill.

I can be a pig headed tunnel visioned mule, but at the same time I know there's a bigger picture in every situation.

I'm a great believer in standing by ones convictions, yet being able to admit to being wrong.

I think I'm the reliable one, in as much as I'll be honest.

I'm just me, a complicated simple contradiction with a huge heart that likes a laugh, a confidante, a friend, but one with limits that will cut people dead if those limits are crossed.

Together we're probably laughed at, laughed with and I imagine we've hit a few people in the feels with our journey.

I'd like to think we're the couple that people are rooting for to make things work for all eternity, who get our happy ever after.

We're the down to earth, up for a giggle pair who aren't afraid to show vulnerability and excitement in equal measure.

B is like Nemo looking for adventure, and I'm like his dad seeing danger from all angles! I reel him in and he pushes me and reassures me.

"I really don't see the forum as a community as such. It's interesting reading how others perceive themselves though.

How do you view the forums then?

Self perception is always an interesting thing and often at odds with how others see us. "

I'm not quite sure. It'd be too dull a stream of consciousness to type out. I don't think people do fall in to particular archetypes either - I think that it depends on who they are interacting with and what day it is and where the moon is.

Yes. Self perception can be how you *want* to be seen or try and portray yourself to be like rather than a true reflection of yourself.

Bit of a joker at times. Not as flirty as I used to be as my age has made me think people aren’t interested anymore.

Standard. I think you just tune out when it becomes too intellectual - it's a different frequency . (not that this thread or my reply is in any shape or form).

You can always look at boobs and plug a story or two?

"After reading another thread I've been musing (yes I'm doing it again) about the forum 'community', it's dynamics and how people fit into it.

Many people do, it's also a common understanding of psychology that people assume different mantels in different social situations. Are you the same with your family as you are with your friends or at work?

People shift behaviours both consciously and unconsciously to fit in and gain acceptance.

I agree.

I did a thread a little while ago about people's perceptions versus others opinions, it was interesting if a little limited. It did go to show how insightful others are and also highlighted how people don't see themselves as others do.

I can see what you mean and i understand why people do it. I'm just myself. I believe in truth, honesty, respect and integrity. To present something I'm not is dishonest and not how i operate. I expect the same in others. It's a real turn off for me and an instant deal breaker. If i find someone has lied or misrepresented themselves. It's an instant delete and block for me.

There was one recently where as an aside almost someone told me how they perceived me previously and now. It was interesting because in my opinion they were quite wide of the mark but as its their real impression of me on some level it must be true.

Don't know what the word for it is. The one who chucks a thought bomb into the room to see how it affects/ inspires/ incites people's passions (good or bad).

Some may find that interesting and some may find that aggravating.

I assume your initial comment was aimed at me.

To clarify my post, I wrote what is my perception of what others on here think of me. I do not adopt a different persona online as to how I am offline, but I have no friends on here so I feel as if I don't fit in, whereas in real life when with my friends my self-perception is the opposite of how I perceive myself to be on here, yet I act no differently.

I certainly haven't lied or misrepresented myself. Far from it.
