Back in the early 70's when I was looking at a career in Retail management, I'd an interview at Littlewoods HQ.

Part of the process was in a very large room, sitting in a chair, facing 5 people at a long desk in front of me.

But all around the room, were about a dozen other HR people, whose job it was to record how many times I touched my face, moved my hair, stumbled over any questions or answers, coughed, cleared my throat and so on.

That process was 90 minutes long. I failed it!

Their conclusion was- I was a nervous type. Ye Gods, I was only 18 at the time.

Interviewing someone who could barely speak any English was challenging, and as it was a requirement of the position it was a rather pointless exercise.

Try think of a relative question no-one else has ..ie if a cleaning job ask 'what day do bins go out'.

If possible try be the first or last to be interviewed.....

I had one similar with about 10 people all staring at me round a table

My brain switched off and I couldn’t speak

Had to leave the room

Somewhere near here

The one where I forgot my name and then had a panic attack.

Another where I had to teach a lesson to my class of 6&7 year olds, I was applying to take the permanent position. I couldn’t count to 5. Still can’t live that down 7 years on from my then teaching assistant

My worst was last week after 4 busy night shifts on ward had a interview let’s say it wasn’t my best and the call to say didn’t get job also said the rambling and la k of sleep hampered me lol

Oh yes I have had many bad interviews and have had to learn the hard way.

Worst experience was being interviewed by a panel of 5 members (1 doctor, 2 psychologists, 1 assistant psychologist and one admin kinda person).

They said “We just have 3 questions for your interview (quite leas that and maybe they already had someone in mind and wasted a lot of peoples time to tick the diversity box?) This was 60-70 miles from home so had to take the whole day off for it).

The first two questions were so subject specific that I do not believe they could be answered without the candidates already being in that specific post. This is quite common. They have voluntary assistant psychologists who they give the job to, but have to do the interview for the sake of it and waste everyones time.

I had to honestly say “I am not able to answer your questions”. Had 3 out of the 5 sniggering at me.

Then they asked a really easy question “what are the pros and cons of working in a MDT (meaning multi disciplinary team)” and then before I could answer they asked “you do know what an MDT is?”

Stuck up cunts having a laugh with interview candidates. I feel sorry for those who are less thick skinned and take things to heart. In hindsight I know now that they already had someone in mind they were just having a bit of fun. Didn’t stop me though an one year later I’ve built up my skills and working in the position I was trying to get. Now onwards and upwards

Just remember if they’ve called you in they just need an excuse to take you!! Hope you smash it mate and get the result you want

Had an interview once, and whilst thinking about the answer to her questions was kind of staring into space, however this happened to be directly at her breasts, she looked at me, looked down and adjusted her top, even though I wasn’t actually staring at her boobs no amount of eye contact from that point on could fix what she thought........I didn’t get the job..,,,

Did one years ago.

They did the whole sit in front of the window thing that they think makes you uncomfortable as you are looking into the light.

Problem being there was building work going on outside and one of the builders fell off the ladder.

When I lived in London I had an interview for a job that I really wanted and that my experience was perfect for. It was about a 5 minute walk from the tube and it went from glorious sunny day to absolutely pissing it down during the walk. Turned up looking like a drowned rat. It inevitably went bad

i used to have a wee game i used to play...when looking for a job a good few years ago i used to apply for jobs i wouldnt do ...my plan was to be a terrible as i could.see how far i could push it and still get the job..when i went for a job interview for a job i did want i had a cockyness about me that a lot of people seems to like

i actually said to one employer "i like getting stoned at lunch times..where can i do that here?"...it became a thing between me and a couple of pals //was fun times...

Hope it went OK

I wasted 13 years of my professional life at Halfords head office and never managed to get promoted, because I was always conscious that the interviewer could, if they wanted, contradict anything I was saying. Or at least have their own take on things.

I find it easier being interviewed in new places, and even then it's not easy as I don't always feel comfortable about new people (which doesn't bode well on a site like this

)

Being interview by somebody who thought he was at google. I was being ask strange questions such as "what would the title of my autobiography be?" After five or six of those types of questions I actually asked what he was trying to prove. The other interviewer thought it very funny and unbelievable I got the job.

I only wish I could get away with charging them!

I did say to him that we shouldn’t waste each other’s time further but I think he knew he’d made a mistake and insisted that we continue...
