Is it possible for your body to react differently to a perfume after using it for years? I've used No 5 for 35 odd years and now it just doesn't last on me whereas before it would last hours.

I'm unsure but perhaps it's not the perfume per se, but shower gel or body lotion reacting with it that's still on your skin?

Not being pedantic but perhaps you don’t notice it as much but others around do? That’s a beautiful perfume Btw.

Sorry for derailing but I've a serious brain fogger about smells. Why does everyone elses washing always smell nicer and fresher than mine?!

It's a possibility but other perfume lasts. I'm really upset because I love it.

Then my only other answer is the cheeky money grabbing feckers have changed the recipe so you use more therefore buy more.

I'm such a cynic these days.

I can't be the only one who gets it. I even do the sniff test down the fabric softener aisle to pick out a good un. Smells lush coming out the machine, smells lush going round the dryer.

2 seconds after taking it out the dryer .... gone.

They change the formula slightly every couple of years.

That's why the fragrance has a batch number on the bottle usually.

I have considered contacting Chanel. I have two bottles of eau de parfum and they're both the same, I even tried the tester in Debenhams.

it can be due to your diet, the cleaner your diet the more your hormones react to the oils in the perfume

......I'm with you on this Aunty P!!!

...although....I think its the kind of people that either out 5 scoops of powder in or a third of a bottle of softener....so it costs em a fortune to do a wash as they to buy one or the other every week!!! Haha

Which way round? Bad diet = good whiff for longer or little whiff?

This is vital. I'd rather smell good than eat good.

Because they might just use a different duration enhancement chemical. I think it's called Ambergris in high end fragrances and something similar in designer fragrances.

Unfortunately, I can have problems with some perfumes and aftershave products.

Due to medical issues, as well as being allergic to spices and similar pungent foods, I can suffer adverse reactions to strong perfumed products; same goes for male aftershave items.

It's the percentage degree of Alcohol within each product that can set off a Coughing Attack.

Some perfumes are ok, if softer and subtly used or applied.

Equally, if male deodorant items are more like a Balm type product, I can survive ok.

But, to avoid ending up in A&E fighting for breath, it has been a Kiss of Death on first dates when I've had to query exactly what the Lady was intending to splash on herself!!!

Skunks are immune to it's own spray.People that work in strong smelling places can't smell it but newbies are over powered by the same smell and so on.I think you become immune to smells that you encounter in your environment for a long time.

so eating healthy means your hormones will be better which means your scent will be better, and that makes perfume smell better. Like people who eat greasy food and drink everyday their scent will be worse as your body isn't getting the right ingredients.
