Can be cheap but you can’t do a full shop there? Always got to go to Tesco’s to finish it off.

Can't beat aldi and lidl. it's cheap and they have pretty everything you could need and most of is as good as the big brand stuff why would you pay through the nose it's a no brainer for me as I live on my own

Lidl is amazing, the fresh fruit, veg and meats are brilliant value and taste great.

I shop once a month at Home Bargains to buy good quality cleaning products and toiletries at cheap prices.

Love a bargain, i have saved do much money by shopping this way and my family haven't even realised the changes I have made.

Are the ppl who make it getting paid less, are you one of those ppl etc. Is the quality there, is it just diluted washing up liquid with salt thrown in it to make it look thick etc. Are they riding on the back of other companies trailblazing innovations? Will they give you anything new or just copy what's already on the market?

I suspect they have lower margins. They definitely have lower labour costs. I swear the whole shop runs on 4 staff members and a security guard. They produce their own food a lot of the time and don't stock expensive brand names.

It's not sad (maybe to others but not me), I totally get it. The bakery section looks and smells heavenly when I go to buy my lunch before work. I never buy anything but always have a sneaky look as I walk by.... dribbling and inwardly sobbing for a croissant

Thinknits cheap due to their buying model. Shift it through as quick as possible so don’t have warehouses filled with stock. The old ‘when it’s gone it’s gone’. They don’t pay staff to fill and empty trucks like the bigger boys do as well. The truck drivers do that. So another cost saving.

I've just discovered Lidl (just opened up near me in walking distance) Their fillet steak is a steal, and it is bloody gorgeous! I will not buy it from anywhere else now! This is coming from someone who has never really cared about price wars, but theirs is too good to miss!

The wine from both are great value - invariably mentioned in the weekend broadsheets

The fruit and veg offers are great and I think the Parmesan cheese in Lidl is superb

The scrumpy cider too

They both do a posh pasta which I can recommend

And tbf the comments over the middle aisle variety have been proper lol

Great. I can't afford to shop at more expensive supermarkets. I can get everything I need at either place. Even if I could afford to become snobby about where I shop, I think I'd be wasting money if I did. Which seems a bit silly to me.

I don't go for my main shopping. I like Sainsbury's or Morrisons but I go to get certain things like condiments. Cake making ingredients are good from there. Cheese. The steak is really good.

I only use Lidl for their bakery ever since my son asked why there was yogurt in the milk bottle !! So Aldi all the way.

I used to do that, but now I don't. I am not sure if it's that I have modified my shop or they have got better ranges than when they started up. Possibly a bit of both. The first Lidl we had, used to put stuff out in cardboard boxes, with the fronts cut away, now it's set out nicely. I found before that it was ok if you had a generic shopping list, like coffee, bread, biscuits, beans and you were happy to take any brand, but if you wanted Nescafe or Warburtons, you had to go to Tesco, or ASDA. I think that Tescos is expensive now, a bag of shopping there costs as much as a small trolley full in ALDI or Lidl, so I am happy to occasionally compromise for the saving.

I love aldi and do most of my shopping there. I don’t eat processed stuff so great for my meat, fruit and veg. The wines are pretty good too and win lots of awards.

I do like to pick up special things from whole foods and Waitrose too but love how east Aldi is. I also bring lots of things back from trader joes in America, aldi and trader joes are owner by two separate brothers. Prefer trader joes as more organic stuff.

I dont have Aldi or Lidl nearby.

I shop at the nearest supermarket to where I am at the time.

I used both when I lived in Berlon though.

They have decent booze and cheese at great prices.

I was living with a vegetarian- so I didn't buy meat there.

I think it depends what you buy - if I had a family then it would make sense to bulk buy from value supermarkets like this - but I'm single and live alone so I prefer Waitrose and M+S.

They're also the most local to me.

I just bought an amazing quiche and cheese coleslaw for 10p each reduced in Waitrose

I love both Lidl and Aldi been using them for years, but it’s really annoying that they are now so popular.

I used to be able to get my monthly shop for a family of 5 done in under an hour, now it has almost as many old ditherers in the queues as the other supermarkets

Just as well I only have to shop for myself these days
