Would be extremely cheap if the worlds governments got together and sorted something.

Cover 1% of the worlds deserts with the latest technology in solar panels and create a solar farm.

Just from ONE days energy it is predicted you have enough energy to power the world for an entire year.

And so many people want nuclear energy and people say green energy isnt enough.

Not if your using solar power.

Yes if you are on a 2-part tarrif such as economy-7 etc, but you will find that the day rate is slightly higher.

If your array is fitted with reverse flow diodes and you have on-site storage theoretically you can run your appliances day and night.

I'll give you an example that will show you it simply isn't feasible to create huge arrays to supply all the power we need.

Spain has a similar feed-in tarrif system as the UK and the take up was quite high, but the problem with Spain is that it enjoys a lot more hours of much higher temperatures than the UK and the arrays were feeding too much electricity back into theur grid and they had to switch them off for a period of time.

Basically, the end technology isn't available to store such huge amounts of raw power.

We had that for years and then changed suppliers.. Npower advised us not to have the dual tarif unless we used shed loads of leccy overnight!

Just running a washing machine and dishwasher overnight, everynight cost us an extra £180 per year! Only worth it if you have storage heaters.. Check, very carefully with you supplier...

Bloody windmills, ruined some of the greatest lanscapes in the UK.. The electricity is way more expensive and it can't hope to meet the needs of the UK! That has all but been accepted by the Government "but we have to do something"!

Spain, Lancs

Windpower and solar power could work...but only if we are to accept far more fuel poverty.

I don't want anyone to suffer that. Shale gas and nuclear is the ONLY sensible way forward.

wel i'm no expert, but we do need more water, and desalination is the obvious answer,

so why cant we work that as a double gain by using the water that is going into, and back out of the desal plant to drive turbines to generate electricity whilst turning salt water into drinking water ??

like i said, i'm no expert but it makes sense to me
