What if.. Fab became the next BIG THING..

Like Scooters, 50Shades, Vikings, Game of Thrones, Retro, Vintage..

What if Fab became not only Mainstream.. but The next big Fad.

How would it change things? Would it be better? Worse? Would forum change at all? Would we end up with some sexual celebrities with enough followers to take on the Kardashians?

Would it change your experience at all?

I’d probably make my pictures a bit more difficult to identify me. Otherwise I don’t think so.

There would still be a mix of people you lust after, ones you think are twats and plenty in between

Just provide you with more options? Do you think itd change fab itself? Forums? Gender balance my equal up a little. Clubs would be busier.. laybys and parking areas may be busier.

I thought about this recently too, would swinging change if it went mainstream. Fab and swinging seems a bit like a secret society of things. If it came out into the lime light and you knew almost all your friends irl were on it and swung, would it be any different from Tinder? A lot of people here feel there's a stigma behind swinging and they make sure to not let anyone know about this part of them, I'm sure that stigma would be lifted and people would be more open about it if it went mainstream.

I think any regular posters who are reasonably popular would become famous overnight. As most of us would continue to post as we do, initially at least.

My Fab life would immediately flow into my real life as my face is plastered all over Fab. My family would find out, the kids school would know, which would only make the school run slightly more embarrassing than it is already.

I'd probably have to make dual profiles. To carry on as I am happily doing so now.

There would be more arguments in the forum, about the same old crap there is now. Those debates would become public knowledge and some would bd invited onto shows to discuss it.

Some users may become overnight pornstars.

Itd be interesting to know if Fab itself grew more of a voice of its own in the wake of such chaos.

It's such a daft declaration isn't it? In an ideal world people will embrace others (twats not included) and be happy others are showing interest and wanting to explore. How and when someone reaches that destination doesn't make them better than others.

I can guess that it would be worse than now, as airheads would swamp the place, making it tougher to find good matches. And the forum would be swamped by even more men who struggle with getting instant or any sex

As it stands, there's a self-selecting good mix of people here, from those who are actively in the swinging scene, to others who want social or sexual engagement. People influenced because it's the new right thing to be doing would add little but hassle - I might enjoy sex with some but it's probably at a high cost of site and membership quality

The divorce rate would probably go up but so would peoples sexual confidence I suppose, make it main stream and people won’t think they are weird anymore because they had ideas outside of the “vanilla”

It wouldn’t have any impact on me as I am deep in background, some forum folk might make it to fame and fortune but most swingers do it quietly without feeling the need to shout from the rooftops

What is so hard to grasp? If Fab became as big as Football overnight..

The Forum is part of Fab. Yes it's not as widely used, but you'd have trending and popular people within that new environment.

Pundits, players, news, gossip.. and people making lots of money off the back of it.

It stands to reason that some of the Cast of the Current Forum may become heroes, rolemodels.. or villains. Initially at least.. till new views and new personalities come along and replace them.

It's not about wanting or not wanting Fame. Popularity may come knocking whether you want it, or not.

I'm talking football level fanaticism. First wave of celebrities would have to come from what already exists.

Popularity is also subjective. You may not think you are, I might, public would make up it's own mind.

Some do sell out though But if you're the type of person who already has some fan favourites in here.. then you could look at in another light. For those who chose to embrace the opportunity fame brings.. youd get to see a lot more of them.

That also applies to the Katy Hopkins like people who do so live to attack others.. so its win-loss

Pundits, players, news, gossip.. and people making lots of money off the back of it.

It stands to reason that some of the Cast of the Current Forum may become heroes, rolemodels.. or villains. Initially at least.. till new views and new personalities come along and replace them.

Maybe my ego just isn't big enough to imagine a world where people of the forum are viewed as celebrities. No matter how popular they think they are now. If the forum is flooded with new input their voices will mostly be lost. Like the rest of us.

Maybe it's my ego.. but I can't help but feel that's another poorly veiled attack. "

"I thought about this recently too, would swinging change if it went mainstream.

I have no desire for li_elight or fame. If fab became the next big thing I suspect it may slowly die a lingering death of look at me ego driven threads and excessive self promotion of the so called celebrity culture....

I'd rather walk alone or with another who is content in their own skin than wander through a sea of self seeking egos that would move on to the next big thing after fab, whatever that may be and however fast the fashions may change...

I don’t think anyone on the forum would be famous overnight. There is no hierarchy or ‘fab royalty’. There would be more competition to be heard, more people attacking others from behind their keyboards and a lot more judgement. The bigger the crowd, the more issues I think.

I don't see how new users will pick up instantly who the "celebrities" are. And as you say will very quickly be replaced by new people. I think it will be far more welcoming with so many new people...and less feeling of like your gatecrashing a private party. I very much would welcome that. You could have differing views without being accused of "attacking". (That was a jokey "attack" for the record x)

Some do sell out though But if you're the type of person who already has some fan favourites in here.. then you could look at in another light. For those who chose to embrace the opportunity fame brings.. youd get to see a lot more of them.

That also applies to the Katy Hopkins like people who do so live to attack others.. so its win-loss "

It already had become the next "Big Thing".

I've been on here on and off a few years now (different profiles) and noticed that recently there has been a large increase in people in and around work, mentioning and talking about local clubs and the site as if it's a naughty secret they've just stumbled across.

Even happened to see someone in work the other day, casually scrolling through a profile as they walked through the office.

It's a fair comment from the other generation tbf. You're bound to think that in some degree, the same as it will be thought of you "What is he doing on here, actually writing full sentences instead of just swiping left and right and sending the odd 'ur fit wuu2' ? "

The same answer is applicable to each instance; although the majority will conform to each stereotype as they're there for a reason, there are people in each generation who break the mould and refuse to be governed by their contemporaries in every regard.

In another separate point, this is a very thought provoking question Ghengis has offered, though if it emerged as a fad or next big thing, once that fad had faded the numbers would still be massively increased on what they were previously due to the amount who had tried it and realised it WAS for them that wouldn't have otherwise. It fits one think tanks prediction that over 50% of the UK will be swingers in one form or another by 2050...

Ten years ago when we got together neither of us knew much ( if anything ) about swinging. A year later we went dogging for the first time, and it seemed so thrilling and naughty!

We heard about fab from someone we met while dogging, joined up and the rest is history. Back then there were half as many people on here. There seems to be regularly be upwards of 32,000 online these days.

So I think swinging has become much more mainstream over the last ten years, regularly featuring in the media and press. And there are plenty of sites catering for casual sex hook ups.

It’s partly for this reason that it’s lost it’s appeal somewhat for us. I’ve always said that if everyone did it would it be any fun any more? And if it’s no fun then why bother? That’s where we are, and 18 months after stopping we don’t miss it at all.

Of course the fact that we had pretty much done everything we wanted to do could have had something to do with it, but I genuinely think the fact that it’s a taboo is part of the appeal.

Hello stranger.. I wonder that myself.. some thing I found incredibly exciting came to be because I found them ultra taboo as a younger, or more inexperienced person. Once the taboo lost its hold.. through experience or personal growth.. the kink died a bit.

Fortunately I'm very much a fan of great vanilla sex with new and exciting people or tried and tested friends.

"I can guess that it would be worse than now, as airheads would swamp the place, making it tougher to find good matches.

Maybe more air heads initially.. but there also be a lot more in depth analysis and public commentary. Services rising to cater for people who struggle. In time people would be more knowledgeable as a group than they are now.. Maybe?"

I do agree that there would be some positives, like you have covered but if fab remained the solitary solution as the new big thing, the millions of new people would likely suffocate much that is great here.

Some of them will just be motivated by doing this new big thing, rather differently to the overall mix of people now. Fab would obviously need to spend lots more money, potentially getting huge profits but I'm reluctant to think that such success would drive site improvements to the extent that would even match current needs. Other services and support could definitely come, as you cover.

The problem with something becoming the new big thing is that fads change and it could be a whirlwind or hurricane effect, wiping much out, before the people move on, without a care for any impacts that they may have had, as they leave the damage behind them - and I do think that there would be damage. Small businesses are easily brought to catastrophe, by circumstances outside of their control.

"Like Scooters, 50Shades, Vikings, Game of Thrones, Retro, Vintage..

What if Fab became not only Mainstream.. but The next big Fad.

How would it change things? Would it be better? Worse? Would forum change at all? Would we end up with some sexual celebrities with enough followers to take on the Kardashians?

Would it change your experience at all?"

Everything will be the same x10.

The rations of men:women:couples will remain same.

The success:failure ratio will remain same.

Fab is already big in number but will never become any more mainstream than it is as open minded sex is still not as open to society lol

"I would become insufferable, being able to add being on Fab before it was ‘a thing’ to add to my list of bearded, craft ale drinking coffee connoisseurbefore everyone else was!

Brilliantly honest "

Thanks Ghenkis! I was taking the piss, both out of myself and the whole ‘I was doing this years ago’ mentality. Obviously I am *never* insufferable!

"I thought about this recently too, would swinging change if it went mainstream.

There is stigma attached to online dating. I cant see it happening any time soon.

I thought the stigma of online dating disappeared about 8 years ago.

No.. I still get piss taken by friends and older generation.

There's definitely not a stigma in my generation though, it may just not have reached all ages yet. I agree to disagree because since there's no stigma for my generation, when I do see a 40 something year old on Tinder or a dating app I do prejudicially think "this is a young'uns place what are they trying here" ..

Yeah it's because you're old Ghengis!

... Some younger women like some older men I'll have you know!"

As if!
