"What do you admire about other people? People here or in your real life. No need to name names. Hopefully you'll see yourself in some of the traits named, because I'm sure people admire things about you. " Honesty and integrity Empathy Selfless If you have those then halfway to being a decent human being.

It's like the pressure is off when it's others' shit as you're just "helping out?" Your input is greatly appreciated, but is seen as a bonus, no expectations, so as such the lack of pressure means more likely in my own experience I can exceed whatever expectations there may have been anyway? When it's your own shit, potential for flappery is much more evident! B

"I’ve read all these admired traits particularly those that are values rather just a capability, or aspect of our personality type, including those that I put in my post. The thing that struck me and pained me was the recognition of how frequently I don’t live those values. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." Yes, that's similar to the thoughts I had about my own posts. I think recognising and working on it is a good step though (in a not patronising way!). I've thought a lot recently (thanks studying) about traits, conversational styles etc and I think embracing particular traits and discarding certain flaws is definitely a way forward. You can do that while remaining true to who you are I think.

Some that are harder to overcome than others. Radical acceptance means for me that I accept and forgive myself for those habits that I struggle to transform whilst changing what I can. Despite the inner conflict my hypocrises create I understand them and no longer dislike myself because of them. They are the very essence of the human condition for me. However to fight those things as if they were somehow outside myself only serves to reinforce them. I don’t how to discard a flaw.

"However to fight those things as if they were somehow outside myself only serves to reinforce them. I don’t how to discard a flaw. " I don't see them as being outside of me (the flaws that is) but I do think that I can strive for self improvement. I'm not entirely sure this will make any sense as I've had to take v. strong painkillers so it might end up being a stream of consciousness of sorts which is basically the standard Meli waffling let's be honest. Perhaps discard wasn't quite the correct term. I think it's more a case of putting to rest one flaw? So if I'm aware it's come out (and given my tendency to overthink that's quite likely) I alter my behaviour/responses to try and prevent it from occuring again. I've had quite good success at that. Going back to the working on the positive traits - I try and adopt a similar approach. Sometimes I just do rather than think too much and things turn out nicely.

Right I understand - that’s what I call jousting with my consciousness- remaining more vigilant when I know I’m likely to slip. When I talk about seeing things as outside myself was when I used to project the things I disliked about myself onto others and fought against them as if they weren’t a part of me. I do that much less now but need to remain vigilant should my awareness slip. However I’m still prone to lapses. Some stuff I just don’t have the personal courage to address.

"Brevity Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa " Sorry Doc Think your first post said it best. If I could achieve all that then I would be much better than I am. If I found someone who could match all that I would drag her off to the cave and make sure she never wanted to escape....
