I had a recent lover who said he wouldn't give me oral until I have an sti test. Now I love oral. Sex isn't complete without it but have no idea how a man protects himself whilst giving oral and now his actions have made me think twice about giving oral. Thoughts and experiences?

It's wise of him to do so to be fair. However a lot do oral with out. However its easier for a woman to contract an oral sti than a man. You can get dental dams however they are not available for free but he could cut up a flavoured condom and use that.

It makes sense to test 3 monthly anyway when having sex with different people even when having safer sex.

They dont in my area, you have to have them done in clinic...a lot of people dont even think to get them done, or hep b jabs...its always best to be 100% open and honest with a clinic...they dont judge

Ultimately it comes down to being risk aware, having sufficient knowledge to assess those risks and making an informed decision based on them as to just how "safe" you want to play.

Couple that with open and honest conversations with potential sexual partners about how they look after their own sexual health, and getting yourself tested regularly and you're doing all you can to limit any risks.

Apart from monogamy/celibacy you can't completely safeguard against any STIs even with condom/oral dam use - so you just have to assess acceptable personal risks for yourself and act accordingly - if others don't like how you take care of your own sexual health then they aren't the right person for you

I just show my NHS text messages with results, not everywhere do postal tests but around portsmouth area they do it, it's simple just order online , supply urine and blood you bleed your finger into a tube and send it, they text results back

My sti test doesn't cover the man who asked me for my sti results. We had safe sex, no kissing or oral. But it makes the whole thing clinical... Not sure what to think or act anymore so hoping someone could enlighten me

Sorry about that. But it's something we should all be aware of. I wasn't until I had this exact conversation with a 26 year old. He definitely open my eyes to things. There's me thinking younger men couldn't teach me things. I was totally wrong and really enjoyed having a younger guy in my life

Showing someone your STI test results doesn't prove a thing though other than that you didn't have any of the things tested for at the point you tested for them.

If you'd had sex with someone carrying an STI less than two weeks prior to the test (or four weeks in the case of HIV, or twelve weeks in the case of syphillis) it wouldn't necessarily show.

And then you have HPV and HSV that aren't tested for.

All your test results show is that you have taken responsibility for your sexual health once and even then that is limited.

As I said further up we each as individuals need to be as informed as we can about the various STIs and make risk assessments based on that knowledge and get regularly tested if we're leading a non-monogamous lifestyle - and that is *all* we can do.

To be fair on him, he wanted to give me oral but wanted to be sure we both clean before doing so. But as you say, if he's polyamory, I can never tell whether he's 100% clean and vice versa. So sadly for us we just sticking to straight sex... As i think the clit protection isn't so nice to use?
