Seem to be opening up everywhere at the moment! And don't they all look amazing inside!?

Genuine businesses ? Or money laundering for prostitution and human trafficking?

Next time you use one, ask for a receipt..

Last one I took my boys to was rude, insulting, had no people skills and seemed much more expensive than every other one we have been to.

I don't think he would be capable of anything else!

I literally asked my Turkish barber this the other day lol "Why are there so many Turkish barbers, and what's special about them?".

I asked my last "barber" where he was from, he didn't know... his boss , after an uncomfortable silence, told me He's from near Turkey. Ah, ok....

Went back to my regular barber after that.

It's all about the "Turkish businessperson visa".

Not just barbers, but countess Turkish restaurants also.

Oh it couldn’t possibly be money laundering now could it?

I mean it’s not as if Turkey and the Balkans is the principal distribution conduit between the vast Opium harvests of Afghanistan and the lucrative markets of Western Europe.

Oh, err, hang on a minute....

So why does the government make it so easy, specifically for Turkey?

No other country gets a "businessperson visa" which can end up with citizenship for the holder and their family.

Will the barber shops have to close after Brexit when they all get kicked out?

I wouldn’t be worried about people being kicked out after Brexit, I’m more worried about the large foreign companies who will gradually leave the UK and stop making this place less attractive to invest in.

Turkey isn't in the EU. Also a great deal of the barbers aren't actually from Turkey anyway.

Maybe to get influence in what is seen as a key strategic country on the edge of both Europe and the Middle East. I don’t think we should as they are a journalist murdering dictatorship, but it could explain that.

PS other Turkish citizens who oppose the regime get murdered too.

Just because they’re Turkish barbers and they can get hold of a Turkish business visa it doesn’t mean they’re laundering money.

According to my auditor, the type of business that they find mostly to be laundering money are car wash businesses. Who knows?

A bit off topic but my OH and I are on a holiday in Bulgaria, there is a place in our hotel where they do turkish bath so we decided to treat ourselves. There was a guy and a woman doing all our procedures while speaking to each other in Russian. I, being from a Slavic country myself, understood bits and pieces and they were talking about us the whole time it quite ruined that experience for me so afterwards I informed the guy that we are not actually brother and sister, but a couple. Right after I found out that he wasn't actually from Turkey, but from Ukraine.

There is money laundering, prostitution, racketeering and protection across all nationalities in all countries across the world. Think of The Krays, The Mafia and The Yakuza. It's not exclusive to Turkey or Turkish Barbers. Whilst I agree that all this is unacceptable in the 21st century, I think it's a little bigoted to focus on Turkish Barbers.

In my town there are now two, first one one of the guys left to setup his own (hence the second one).

It's the cheapest place to get your haircut in the town by about £2-3, and credit where its due they are one of the best. Guys in there seem genuine, constantly talking and having a laugh. I'm sure there are some as people have said but there are good ones out there.

Money laundering doesn’t work like that it’s not about hiding money it’s anout making it appear legal a business can actually earn very little but make out it has earned much more on so whilst legally doing some card transactions it can say it has taken much more via cash,

Money laudering outlets. Same with nail bars, hairdressers, tattoo shops, eastern european supermarkets and vape shops.

Low stock outlay and low rents (as high density of them are in as affluent areas with lots of empty shops)

Too few police and tax inspectors to investigate them

My barber has been in the same shop for as long as I can remember.

His price list is on a plastic letters board and he has pictures of Tony Curtis, Roger Moore and Adam faith on the wall all in black and white.

The no boys on a Saturday sign is an ancient relic written in a Parker fountain pen. The small telly has 4 channels and a fuzzy picture.

And he always asks the Saturday client if they need anything for the weekend.

Sadly there are a few active and passive bigots around the world, best ignoring them really, they make a lot of noise but thankfully there aren't all that many of them.

Actually I think there's probably even less in a hobby like ours, I mean once you get naked it's pretty obvious the differences aren't that great. Even the language differences disappear when you orgasm

"The one near us gives everyone the same haircut so i got a mobile hairdresser instead.

The plain old fashioned English one up the road does that same cut whatever they ask for

Do you remember the old advert with the Lionel Blair cut? Can't remember what it was for, just remember "Lionel Blair doesn't have his hair like that", "he does if he comes here!"."

Time for a quick exit. Time for a Harp .....

1992 I remember that one.

" I want to know how threads like this get bumped

Somebody types a word or phrase into the forum search function and then adds a comment to it.

In this case… ‘Turkish barber’ I’d wager.

Quite simple really.

yes yes I know that, but why? "

There are many why's n how's ....... I don't care why or how I just wish they didn't ...

Yep several opened up locally, not at all sure what nationality they are, offer a damn good service seem to be open 7 days a week and until late. Do have a bit of a language barrier as they seem to cut hair by numbers and I know fook all about hair by numbers, asked for a trim and he says what number, this goes back and forth several times then I say I will have a Sean Connery lol he says who is Sean Connery I say James Bond he waves his hand, then I see pics all around the wall I say I will have one of those he says you think, cheeky bastard I sure he meant you don't have enough hair for one of those lol but he did wax my nostrils in the price might ask him to wax more next time lol.

Until a couple of years ago I was happy paying anything under a tenner for a haircut. So for my sons wedding I decided to treat myself to a haircut and wet shave at my local Turkish barbershop! I now understand why women enjoy being pampered lol. The guys are so friendly and they give a great haircut and shave. I probably get one every 4/6 weeks and for £20 it’s very good value.

Land's End

Hi from Turkiye (istanbul) I wonder ( as journalism degreed) really the reason of that. Here barbers don't do dirty jobs. I will try to learn what is going about it.

A town near you

Several Turkish barbers dotted around the west of Ireland are owned by a kurdish man and are staffed by his many nephews and cousins

"Money laudering outlets. Same with nail bars, hairdressers, tattoo shops, eastern european supermarkets and vape shops.

Low stock outlay and low rents (as high density of them are in as affluent areas with lots of empty shops)

Too few police and tax inspectors to investigate them"

You can add ice cream vans and burger/hotdog stands to that as well

Do you have statistics to back up your comment?

London/EA

Barbers in general are popping up everywhere.. They’re the new phase of the sweet shops that were everywhere in London until recently when a lot were shut down for money laundering.

No stock required and can easily adjust the figures of cuts in a day and what they had done.

My local charges me a tenner for a zero over my head and a number over my beard. Before Christmas I went to another one, because I couldn't make it back in time and he charged me £25 for a terrible job. Plenty of barbers around here, but it's hard to find a good one.

I think that Turkish relates to the experience rather than the ethnicity!

Apparently a lot of them are used for laundering drug money...

Do you have evidence to support that allegation?
