It depends on how far you're going back OP. I spent 6 years learning Latin at school, non of which is relevant these days, unless you wanna say Iacto hasta agricola

That'll keep those pesky Romans at bay

Not being British, I really don't understand why there are so many British people who seem to hate this country. The British have contributed so much to the betterment of the entire world - inventions, art, medicine. Yes, there are bad parts of your history, every country has those, but today it's a great country to live in in comparison to so much of the rest of the world.

My Country? I don't feel like I have one if I'm honest, not a fan of borders myself.

Though if pushed, I'm English/Scottish. Scottish side has helped me always look at English side from multiple angles.

I guess i'm British. Which means I have Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, Roman, Viking, Pict, Norman, Germanic blood running through my veins.

Am I proud of Empire? No. Not if it costs countless lives to make it so. Proud of something I've not personally achieved? Hell no!

Am I fascinated to be a microscopic part of it all.. The current end result of all of my ancestors before me.. Proud to be here? Yes.

I'm proud of our current -on the face of things values-

Free sexuality, religion, non-racist.. tolerant, peaceful majority. I just wish our politics reflected the Utopia most of us world wide want. Not the one the powerful insist we must pay for.

The English are part Roman, part Scandanavian, part Saxon, part Norman, etc. Basically, all the people's who successfully invaded them.

In addition, a lot of the modern English are descended from people whose countries they colonised and stripped for resources during the Empire period.

Why do you think the Asian community moved over here? The Romans were good at building straight roads. The Asians turned left and built a shop on the corner

It does although the English borders that we recognise now were only established in the 10th century.

Land of the giants... ;-)

It's difficult to love the history of such a controversial place... we were an Empire... we attacked other countries for greed... we conquered in the name of God... again for greed....

I am proud of the good people now.. and in history of this country ..
